A veteran police officer with a previously unblemished record has been dismissed for making racist comments. PC Mark Saville, who served for 27 years with Greater Manchester Police and was a tutor to other officers, was sacked for gross misconduct following a disciplinary hearing. The officer, who was based at the City of Manchester division, is believed to have made the comments in a training session. A senior officer said in his role he was meant to set an example to colleagues. In a statement GMP read: "At a gross misconduct hearing held at GMP force headquarters on Monday 1 and Tuesday 2 April, 2019, PC Mark Saville was dismissed without notice for breach(s) of the standards of professional behaviour. The Tottenham and England defender has said he has “had enough” in the wake of the abuse he received while playing for England in Montenegro last month, branding the way racism is dealt with by authorities as a “farce”. Belneftekhim comments on oil transit price discussion with Russia
MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) – The tariff on oil transportation across Belarus is one of the lowest among the countries that transit oil, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim Andrei Rybakov. The official made a few comments on the ongoing discussion with Russia about a possible change in oil transportation tariffs.Andrei Rybakov noted: “Transporting oil by pipe has to meet serious technical and environmental protection requirements since Belarus is a socially and ecologically responsible country. EU Commission declines to comment on possible Brexit extension
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Commission, which has led EU negotiations with Britain over Brexit, declined on Friday to comment on a possible further delay to Britain’s departure from the bloc. “The only game in town is the European Council, which will start on Wednesday at 6 p.m,” Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas told a news conference, referring to a summit of EU leaders on Brexit on April 10. “It’s a hypothetical question because it assumes that there is an extension, which is yet to be seen by our leaders,” Schinas said, referring to the fact that the 27 national leaders of EU states staying on together after Brexit must unanimously agree on any further Brexit delay for Britain. Eastbourne election candidate says she was ‘wrong’ to make ‘dead Tory’ Facebook comment
A Liberal Democrat candidate for Eastbourne has said she was “wrong” to make an offensive Facebook comment. Amanda Morris, who is standing in the upcoming borough council elections for Old Town, wrote “the only good Tory is a dead Tory” on the social media website. In a statement to the Herald, she said, “It was wrong for me to say what I said, and I have totally taken on board I have a responsibility to use my words carefully.
