With the Lionesses scoring freely through Euro 2022, it’s the driving force needed to get more women and girls involved in football in the UK. Sadly, females represent just 2% of people playing the sport, according to Jim Law of the Findaplayer website, which helps locate local teams and events. Reassuringly though, that number is expected to rise dramatically this year, with more than 6,500 active female-only or mixed games across the nation. Whether it’s on a competitive or social level, there are so many reasons to give football a go. Euro 2022 tournament sponsor Visa commissioned a report into women’s football, Women Thriving On And Off The Pitch, which showed that: Three quarters of those who play team sport say it has had a positive impact on their business life. Half of those who play a team sport say it helps them deal with stress, tiredness or being overworked. Visa ambassador Karen Carney MBE, who has 144 caps for England, says: ‘The biggest eye-opener … [Read more...] about How to get into football for fitness and fun from the women in the sport

Barry Hearn sends ‘no favours’ message as PDC looks to help women’s darts grow
Barry Hearn has laid down a challenge to female darts players as the PDC looks to grow the game on the back of the first-ever Women’s World Matchplay. In a ground-breaking first, eight of the best female players in the world played for the Matchplay trophy on the same day as the main final between Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. The tournament, which was broadcast by Sky Sports, shone a light on the women’s game, although it remains the PDC’s priority is to have predominantly integrated tournaments. PDC president Hearn was happy with aspects of the Women’s Matchplay, but wants to see more players enter the Women’s Series, which will be expanded to 24 events next year and have a prize fund of £145,000. The hidden ADHD tax is landing women like me in thousands of pounds of debt

Once again, I’ve spent my monthly paycheck long before payday and I’m waiting, struggling until it comes around again. My relationship with money has always been tumultuous. When I was little, I’d spend my pocket money as soon as I had it. As a university student, I was constantly making impulsive purchases. When my first student overdraft ran to its limit, I got another one. And another. A form of neurodiversity, ADHD is defined by clinical psychologist Dr Rachel Woodward as “a neurodevelopmental condition that impacts the parts of the brain that control emotions, learning, memory and self-control.” The National Institute of Mental Health reports that men are almost three … [Read more...] about The hidden ADHD tax is landing women like me in thousands of pounds of debt
Letters: Stop shaming women for sex; instead, contribute to helping other children
How can we preach sex responsibility when so many communities refuse proper sex education in order for people to make responsible decisions? The emphasis on consequences is an archaic mentality that being sexual is something that should be punished. I encourage the writer of a recent letter to look beyond the Bible and take a deeper look at how religion has led to victim shaming and used shame to control women. If sex is about responsibility, then start with the years of sexual abuse against children that religious leaders have covered up for decades. Do you know what else is about responsibility? Everyone working together for a better society, which includes maternity leave, health care, universal pre-K and equal rights. In other countries, it's shameful not to help others. Here it's shameful to need help. Shaming people has never stopped people from having sex or led to better decision-making. Instead, I would like to see pro-birth advocates focus their efforts on the … [Read more...] about Letters: Stop shaming women for sex; instead, contribute to helping other children

Published 20 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing When the Taliban took power in Afghanistan last August, the lives of many residents were transformed. Over the past year, tens of thousands of Afghans have been evacuated out of the country, most girls' secondary schools have been ordered to close and poverty is rising. Sadistic Holocaust camp guard so evil she was nicknamed the ‘Hyena of Auschwitz’
When people think of the Nazis the image they most likely conjure up is one of a male. But the Third Reich had its share of complicit women, some who would go on to commit atrocities in concentration camps. One of the most infamous was Irma Grese, a guard better known as 'Hyena of Auschwitz' or 'The Beautiful Beast'. The blonde ringleted German was only 22 when she was hanged for her war crimes after being found guilty for murdering prisoners - the youngest woman to die under British law last century. Grese's brutality was said to be notable even among her male Nazi counterparts, although it is difficult to confirm every accusation against her. However, witnesses claimed that Grese would beat and kick … [Read more...] about Sadistic Holocaust camp guard so evil she was nicknamed the ‘Hyena of Auschwitz’

Love our president has a sense of humour." Another tweeted: "The President of the United States is a child." Last year, during his run for office, Trump was caught … [Read more...] about Donald Trump wipes out Hillary Clinton with golf ball in viral video tweeted by US president HIMSELF

Being Brenda
Until a few years ago, the name David Reimer meant little to those outside his immediate circle, and by the time he killed himself last Tuesday in unknown circumstances in his hometown of Winnipeg, it was already slipping back towards obscurity - a name belonging to nobody more remarkable than a local odd-job man, a 38-year-old former slaughterhouse worker who was separated from his wife, and enjoyed shopping at flea markets and tinkering with his car. In fact, to anyone taking an interest in the development of psychology in the 1970s and 1980s, Reimer's life story would have long been infamous, but also pseudonymous. Going by the name "John", and subsequently "Joan", David Reimer had been an unwitting guinea-pig - along with his identical twin brother Brian - in a medical experiment at first celebrated, then notorious. Masterminded by a prominent Baltimore physician, John Money, it was an attempt to settle, once and for all, the fraught nature-versus-nurture debate: to prove that … [Read more...] about Being Brenda
