WHERE were you when you saw the Baby One More Time video? I was lying on my friend Sophie’s pink-carpeted bedroom floor, watching MTV and swigging Malibu from the bottle we’d stolen from her parents’ drinks cupboard. We were 13 and instantly captivated. It may not have been the moon landings or JFK getting shot, but it was era-defining for me. Watching the Framing Britney Spears documentary recently, I felt as queasy as I did sipping that neat Malibu. The fact that her father still has control over nearly every aspect of her life and finances would be shocking enough. But it’s the casual misogyny that is really sobering. We see a teenage Britney being asked in interviews about her breasts and whether she’s a virgin. There’s Justin Timberlake affirming a radio host’s question of whether he f**ked her. COVID-19: Hunt for mystery person infected with Brazil variant narrows to 379 households

The hunt for an unidentified person who tested positive for the Brazil variant of coronavirus has narrowed to 379 households in southeast England, the health secretary has said. In total, six cases of the P1 coronavirus variant first found in Brazil have been discovered in the UK. One has still yet to be identified after the individual failed to complete their test registration card. Chelsea icon Michael Essien deletes Instagram post supporting gay rights in Ghana after being hit by backlash

MICHAEL Essien has come in for a barrage of abuse after declaring his support for gay rights in Ghana. The Chelsea icon won 58 caps for his country and still commands vast attention there. But Essien sparked controversy with his pro-equality message in a nation where homosexuality is still illegal. The ex-midfielder, 38, wrote on Instagram: "Ghana supports equality. We see you, we support you. "Our LGBTQIA plus Community in Ghana." However dad-of-two Essien deleted his post after being bombarded with abuse and criticism. One comment on his post read: "You just lost your one follower, good luck, byee." Another said: "Delete else you will loose (sic) followers." William Kentridge, chronicler of political and philosophical uncertainty

The South African William Kentridge, born in 1955, is one of the most internationally renowned living artists. Based in Johannesburg, Kentridge works with different media forms, from visual arts to filmmaking, performance and storytelling. Kentridge has been a regular guest at the Documenta in Kassel and at the Biennale in Venice. Now, the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin will feature for the first time a comprehensive exhibition of his interdisciplinary oeuvre. Post-apartheid tensions The son of two lawyers representing people marginalized by the apartheid system, William Kentridge studied political sciences and African studies before he switched to fine arts. Many recognized in his early works allegorical evocations of the tensions and oppression in South Africa under the apartheid. Yorkshire Ripper victims’ families demand inheritance share as ex-wife says ‘no comment’

Families ripped apart by one of Britain’s worst serial killers are demanding his estate be shared between them. Mystery surrounds what Peter Sutcliffe has left in his will amid claims he owns two plots of land in Scotland. Sutcliffe boasted that one of the Kray twins offered to buy the land gifted to him by a female admirer while in Broadmoor. But Neil Jackson, 62, whose mum Emily Jackson was Sutcliffe’s second murder victim, says his victims should be given compensation if there are any funds available. And he’s asking the Government to intervene to find out the extent of the killer’s property and funds.
