· February 17, 2021 ·

CAFFE Nero is giving away free hot drinks including tea, coffee and hot chocolate to O2 customers today. The deal is available via the O2 Priority app which users can download for free on their smartphones. It's only available today until midnight - so you'll want to move fast if you want a free caffeine jolt. But it's worth noting that it's a regular offer, so it's likely to be back soon for o2 customers. However, the deal is strictly one code per customer per device, per week. Prices for Caffe Nero drinks vary across the country, but you're looking at savings of between £1.90 and £2.70 depending on what you order. COVID: Germany in lockdown lethargy

· January 26, 2021 ·

After weeks of snow and subzero temperatures, there is a touch of spring in the air in late February in Berlin. Thousands of people are out on the streets. In busy areas, just a handful wear masks. Although nonessential retailers remain closed and eateries are only open for takeouts, long lines snake outside every coffee shop, artisanal bakery and outdoor food market. It would be easy to forget that Germany has been in lockdown for nearly four months and strict contact limits remain in place. Lockdowns less popular "All the data and surveys so far show that a large majority still follow the rules," Rolf van Dick, professor of social … [Read more...] about COVID: Germany in lockdown lethargy

· February 26, 2021 ·

Day 340 of the social distancing measures and I am ready to announce a clear winner of my award for the Most Annoying Zoom Background of Lockdown . A roll on the drums, please, for that bumptious self-promoter Grant Shapps , whose survival in ministerial office is one of the enduring mysteries of modern politics. (He’s now the Transport Secretary, if you’re wondering, entrusted with the nation’s hopes of regaining the right to a foreign holiday sometime before the crack of doom.) Heaven knows, I try to be charitable in this column. But I defy even the kindest-hearted among us to look at the elaborately staged background to Mr Shapps’s Zoom appearances from his home without thinking: ‘Goodness, what a twerp!’ Grant Shapps, pictured, appeared on Robert Peston's ITV show with the British Civil Air Ensign emblazoned with the Union Flag, draped as usual from a floor-standing flagpole Take Wednesday night, when he appeared via Zoom on Robert Peston’s ITV show. There he … [Read more...] about TOM UTLEY: My plea for the future? We see the back of hideously vain Zoom poseurs like Grant Shapps
