Food trends like cronuts and charcoal come and go, but one bizarre "superfood" is back, two years after it first debuted: Cockroach milk. The pesky bug is actually filled with an energy-rich milk-like substance. It's not your typical non-dairy milk alternative like almond milk, but cockroach milk is gaining popularity once again, after coming to the forefront in 2016. In 2016, a research team based at the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in India said the "milk" from the Pacific beetle cockroach could make for the next great superfood. These cockroaches possess protein-rich crystals that lactate to feed their young. This particular type of cockroach, which is usually found on Pacific islands like Hawaii, gives birth to their babies, as opposed to laying eggs. Their "milk" is made up of protein-infused crystals reported to have three times the energy of the equivalent mass of normal dairy milk. "The crystals are like a complete food -- they … [Read more...] about Is cockroach milk back as a superfood trend?
A New Zealand man is fuming after reportedly making a disgusting discovery on an Air NZ plane flying from Perth to Auckland. The man, who does not want to be identified, says he shot a nauseating video showing cockroaches running around the flight earlier this month. "Got to love having this little guys running around," he told Newshub. "Nothing like waking up to the feeling of one running up your leg... managed to kill a few seeing the crew had no interest in them even though I brought them a dead one like a cat brings its owner a mouse." His footage shows the revolting vermin crawling up seats. But they didn't stop there. He says the roaches went on to climb onto passengers. "All I can say is when one crawled up the arm of the girl in front of me I am glad she was asleep, the screams would have hurt," he says. "I have been on hundreds of flights even on cheap airlines and not once have I ever seen this." Air NZ has been contacted for comment, but so far has yet to respond. The man … [Read more...] about Cockroaches allegedly filmed crawling on Air New Zealand flight
A cockroach-infested takeaway in Ravensthorpe has been shut down for a second time. Farhan Ul-Haque, who runs Hot Grill in Huddersfield Road, was prosecuted in January after Kirklees Council environmental health inspectors found dead cockroaches and mouse droppings inside the filthy premises. He was hauled before Kirklees magistrates again after a further inspection showed that the pests had returned. They were told that an inspection uncovered live and dead Oriental cockroaches as well as some of their body parts and faeces in areas where food was prepared. Magistrates granted a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order to keep the place closed after hearing that it posed a real risk to public safety. The Huddersfield court heard that the business has a history of poor compliance with food hygiene legislation and problems with cockroaches. In December last year Kirklees Council carried out an inspection and it was awarded a Scores on the Doors rating of just one. It was revisited on May 15 … [Read more...] about Live and dead Oriental cockroaches found at Hot Grill takeaway

FURIOUS workers at Mallorca's main airport claim it is being plagued by fleas, as well as an infestation of mosquitoes and cockroaches in the main terminal. The blame is being put on the lack of cleaning and the hundreds of dogs and cats being sent to and from the UK and Germany every day. Son Sant Joan airport in Mallorca's capital of Palma is the third biggest in Spain and one of the busiest airports in Europe, used by 27.9 million passengers in 2017. Terminal A is used by millions of Brits as they head for the holiday island every summer. Airport staff claim they are being constantly bitten and are making their objections public because of lack of action, with some saying they have needed medical treatment for the bites. They said in a statement: "This plague of fleas in the 21st century is eating the airport." The airport employees, ranging from 300 to 400 in the high season, say they are "disgusted" and claim nothing is being done about the problem, despite complaints to the … [Read more...] about Mallorca airport is infested with fleas and cockroaches, claim staff
