How Gen Z is hooked on cryptocurrency and NFTs
By Mariko Oi Published 14 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing The lure of making a quick buck has always attracted young people to invest in risky assets. For Generation Z, it is the volatility - and the decentralised nature - of digital assets such as cryptocurrency and NFTs which appeals. But they are unregulated, meaning there is little investor protection. "All my friends were talking about [cryptocurrency] so one day I just decided why not just jump in and see if I can make some money," says 20-year-old Paxton See Tow. All he needed was his phone and trading thousands of dollars' worth of assets was only a click away. Generation Z - also known as Zoomers - are the age group born between the mid-1990s to early-2000s. They grew up online, playing games and meeting friends virtually, so the transition is natural. Have we had enough of Netflix?
By Jennifer Meierhans & Alex Taylor Published 22 April Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Trying to watch some of Netflix's more recent series all the way through, says Paul Weiner, feels a bit like cramming frankfurters down your throat in a hotdog eating contest. Readers outside the US may not share the American enthusiasm for competitive hotdog swallowing. But maybe they can relate to the feeling. We've all spent the last few years, the last two especially, binge-watching, indiscriminately, too mesmerised to click the off-button. Are we maybe just a little bit sick of it? That's the fear seizing executives in Netflix's boardroom right now. That Mr Weiner, a 28-year-old artist from Denver, Colorado, who loved the streaming service at first, especially for watching old favourites like Star Trek and The Office, typifies a new mood. That after years of skyrocketing … [Read more...] about Have we had enough of Netflix?
First Syria, now Ukraine – Britain cannot backstab its allies over chemical weapons again
It was the hottest night of late August 2013 in a sweltering Paris, as the recently elected socialist President of France, François Hollande, waited in his Elysée office to give an order that would have changed history. Ten days earlier more than 1400 innocent people had been killed in a Sarin gas attack on the outskirts of Damascus. The use of chemical weapons by Bashar al-Assad in Syria, an hour’s flight from the European Union, in a genocidal attack on his own people marked a new turn in 21st century history. France’s conservative President Chirac had played endless games a decade earlier on whether he would or would not stand with the US, UK and most EU democracies (other than Germany) in stopping Saddam Hussein from defying UN resolutions. In contrast, socialist Hollande was clear that the Syrian dictator, now in close alliance with Russia’s Vladimir Putin , had to be faced down. After joint planning with Washington, he ordered Rafale warplanes equipped … [Read more...] about First Syria, now Ukraine – Britain cannot backstab its allies over chemical weapons again

Woman catches ‘weirdo’ taking photos of her feet on plane during flight
A woman shared her gruesome flight experience online after catching a fellow plane passenger "taking pictures of her feet" – without her permission. Alina, 23, branded the bloke a "weirdo" on TikTok after taking a Delta Airlines flight from Florida. She turned to her followers asking: "What the f*** am I supposed to say?" The short video appears to show the man turning his phone camera towards Alina and pointing it downwards, before clicking the shutter to snap a picture of her feet. He then appears to review the photo while sitting right next to Alina. "I posted this video because I thought it was funny. I do have shoes on and no, I don't know they guy," she explained in the comments. Viewers shared their thoughts to Alina – and most of them agreed that she should have "charged him" for taking the photos. "Just say, 'that'll be $450'," a viewer joked and a second said: "I would have been like 'excuse me sir, you need to pay for that'." Others blasted the man's … [Read more...] about Woman catches ‘weirdo’ taking photos of her feet on plane during flight
