The hands of time at Cleethorpes Railway Station are back in action right on time for the start of the holiday season. Thanks to a partnership between Network Rail, TransPennine Express and the Railway Heritage Group the station clock has been returned to its prime and reinstalled. Having occupied its dominant position on the skyline of Cleethorpes since the 1880s, the four-tonne timepiece was dismantled by Colt Construction and taken to Hull in August so that refurbishment work could be carried out. There’s “neigh” messing about for hungry horses and their riders at this McDonald’s in Cleethorpes! Wallace Cruickshank, 15, was taking a leisurely stroll on her pony Savvanah when she decided to treat her equine friend to some carrot sticks from the Meridian Point restaurant. Of course, with hitching rails in short supply, it made more sense to go through the drive-thru. While people have tried to get served while riding the likes of children’s mini cars before, Wallace had no problem making her order with Savvanah. Afterwards, her mum, Lisa, said: “I’m so proud as she is so quiet but on her pony she’s so confident.” Technically speaking, McDonald’s only allow “road-going motor vehicles” into their drive-thru lanes. They also allow some “class 3” mobility scooters into them but discourage cyclists from using them. The company says: “The drive-thru facility is designed for motor vehicles and, on … [Read more...] about Watch as teen goes through Cleethorpes drive-thru on her pony

But an inquest heard that nobody will ever really know how Lanny Powell, 52, ended up on the line at New Clee railway station on July 30 last year. Mr Powell, of no fixed address, died on the railway track just three weeks before another Grimsby man jumped in front of a train and died just yards from where Mr Powell was found. A post mortem examination revealed Mr Powell died from multiple injuries just hours after discharging himself from the accident and emergency ward at Grimsby's Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital. The inquest at Cleethorpes Town Hall heard he had been admitted for alcohol-related issues. Driver of the 3.26pm train from Cleethorpes to Manchester, John Fairbank told investigators he saw a man standing on the track side with his back towards the platform. Grimsby and North Lincolnshire coroner, Paul Kelly said it … [Read more...] about Man may have been hit by train trying to walk to Cleethorpes
