Organised by Positively Vegan Magazine, the inaugural one day vegan festival is set to take place at Moon on the Water in Cleethorpes. The festival has a wide variety of products, food and talks scheduled to take place on Saturday (May 19) from 10am until 4pm. Talks and workshops will all take place between 11am and 3pm and children are welcome too - there is disability access and as always at this venue, dogs are permitted. There will be a donation entry fee of £1, (children under 12 free) to the event, with proceeds going to the Grimsby Blue Cross. Why vegan Cleethorpes? PVM say are three reasons why most people are turning towards a plant based diet; their health, for animals, and for the environmental reasons. Four beaches in Cleethorpes and Humberston have been awarded the highest honour at the Seaside Awards. Cleethorpes North and Central beaches and Humberston Fitties and Marine Embankment all received top marks and the coveted Seaside Award itself. Beaches are ranked in the awards for the quality of their facilities, water and environmental management. "This is great recognition of the hard work and dedication the council departments and others involved put in to making the resort a top-class place to work, stay and play," Councillor Matt Patrick said. "There's some really strict criteria for local authorities to achieve these awards, and we're really pleased that we've been able to keep up the high standards for more than 10m visitors that come to the resort each year." Forget the royal wedding, Cleethorpes Town player Liam Davis had a brush with footballing royalty when he rubbed shoulders with the great Luis Figo yesterday. Davis - who is also owner of The Point Cafe Bar & Restaurant in the resort - was taking part in the UEFA Equal Game in Lyon, France. The Equal Game campaign believes that 'everyone should be able to enjoy football. No matter who you are, where you’re from or how you play'. Davis was a natural choice to play a part in the five-a-side encounter given that he is that rare breed - an openly gay footballer. It was a great experience for him as he played with Portugal, Barcelona and Real Madrid star Figo, as well as Eric Abidal, the former France and Barca defender. The latest bar to open in Cleethorpes is making a splash with its fancy cocktails. Arthur's House has opened on the site of historic menswear shop Arthur Burton's, which traded on Sea View Street for 145 years since 1872. The bar is a gin kitchen and cocktail lounge, which aims to provide customers with a sophisticated drinking experience. "We wanted to bring to the street something a little bit different to what the other establishments are doing," general manager Jamie Younger said.
