Residents have been given the chance to have their say over the latest designs for the former Assembly Rooms - and council chiefs want to know what you think the venue should be called in the future. There has been an Assembly Rooms in the city's Market Place since the 18th century - with some breaks for fire - when the original venue of that name was built between 1765 and 1774. That building remained in use until 1963 when it was destroyed by fire and the frontage was eventually moved from the Market Place to Crich Tramway Village. Yesterday scientists announced that the Doomsday Clock - the theoretical timepiece which indicates how close we are to apocalypse - was at 2 minutes to midnight. This is the same as it was last year. But context is everything, and the only other time since the clock was created in 1947 that it has been this close to doom was 1953. By that point, the USA, Soviet Union and UK had exploded a total of 36 nuclear weapons. Of … [Read more...] about The apocalypse is nearer than you realise

So it hasn't been whipped out of the air just because of the Gilets Jaunes protests and the troubles that have been occurring in Germany as well. But I think it's possible that the timing is being accelerated as a form of public relations in the European Union to go against those protests. READ MORE: Macron, Merkel Arrive in Aachen and Sign New Treaty on Cooperation (VIDEO) I don't think it will be particularly effective because the original treaty back in 1963 would've been something that both sides would have seen as an important reconciliation but these days it's more about maintaining the … [Read more...] about ‘Days of European Unification Over’: Prof. on Merkel-Macron Cooperation Treaty
