Putting milk on your cereal does not make it healthier, judges have ruled after Kellogg's took the Government to court over its plans to tackle obesity. The maker of Crunchy Nut corn flakes argued that the sugar content of its cereals should be measured after milk is added and brought a High Court case in April. A High Court judge has now ruled against Kellogg’s claims that the regulations were unlawful and that they failed to take into account the nutritional value of the milk added to the product. The ruling means some cereals may no longer be prominently displayed on supermarket shelves if they have a high sugar content. Chris Silcock, the UK managing director, said the cereal firm was "disappointed" with the decision, but it would not appeal. A ban on ‘buy-one-get-one-free’ or three-for-two offers on unhealthy food and drinks will be introduced in October 2023. Mr Silcock added: “It makes little sense to us that consumers will be able to buy other products, like … [Read more...] about Milk does not make cereal healthier, High Court rules

Redditch firm defends sale of human breast milk
Published 26 August 2021 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A private company has defended selling breast milk for profit and said its products can help premature and ill babies. NeoKare Nutrition, based in Redditch, Worcestershire, screens milk from donor mums then pasteurises and sells it. The firm said there was a demand from parents wanting to buy it. But charities including the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) have written to the government to argue breast milk should not be bought or sold. Mother-of-three Megan Golub said she and her partner had turned to NeoKare after she had struggled to breastfeed her third son Oliver. After trying formula, "which was even worse", her partner Robin Gibb attempted to find breast milk from elsewhere. He tried not-for-profit milk banks but said access was not guaranteed "if you did not have a premature baby or if they … [Read more...] about Redditch firm defends sale of human breast milk

When was my house built and how old is it?
RENOVATING a home should be a relatively simple process, but sometimes there's legislation dictating what you can and can't do. It is important when buying a house to find out what year it was built and if there is likely to be anything that would hamper your revamp. How old is my house? Having an older house can mean there are restrictions on what renovations you can carry out on the property. For example, if your house is particularly old or in an area of outstanding natural beauty you might not be able to add an extension. An old house generally refers to one over 50 years old. Britain is fed up, bitter, and practically broke – and it’s all going to get worse
Welcome to gerontocratic Britain. Sir Paul McCartney, 80, was the star attraction at the once youthful but now desperately middle-aged Glastonbury. Sir Elton John, 75, filled Hyde Park last weekend . The state pension is shooting up, financed by a tax raid on the young. The latest Census revealed that we are plunging into a catastrophic baby bust . The young and not so young are demoralised, downcast and have gone on baby strike, and not merely because they paid the price for protecting their elders from Covid . As the number of 90-year olds reaches an all-time high, there are 264,650 fewer under-fours than a decade ago, a 7.6 per cent slump. How many schools will need to shut, replaced by care homes and retirement villages? The signs are unmissable: Britain is a society that is losing trust in the future, and is increasingly terrified of its present. The greying of everything, the dissipation of a defined youth culture, means that we are now peering into a precipice of … [Read more...] about Britain is fed up, bitter, and practically broke – and it’s all going to get worse

Spending will be 557bn roubles (£8.2bn) lower in 2023 than previously approved plans, with similar cuts pencilled in for the following two years. The budget tweaks are minor compared to the size of Moscow’s overall budget but the figures are one of the first signs of the fiscal blow being dealt by the conflict in Ukraine. Sri Lanka’s economic crisis is driving people to flee the country in desperation
Sri Lanka's economic crisis is worsening , and the daily lives of people living in the small island nation have been severely disrupted. On Tuesdaz Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that with debts now totalling over $50 billion, Sri Lanka is "a bankrupt country." Make-up artist branded ‘scammer’ for charging woman extra as she’s a bride
A make-up artist who asked for more than three times the agreed price for a make-up service after discovering the customer was a bride has received a storm of criticism on Reddit . Several users accused the artist of being "a scammer" that sees weddings as "a cash cow," describing the price hike as "beyond insane." According to a post shared by the make-up artist (under the username Affectionate_Lie0) on Reddit's Am I The A**hole (AITA) forum, the artist was booked to do regular "party make-up," for which the user charges $150, which was the price agreed with the customer. However, while at the event, "at some point it slips from a woman about the wedding and I realise the woman I'm doing the make-up on is the bride ," the artist said. The user said, "I was completely pissed how she lied about the occasion but I kept doing my job." After the make-up artist was done, when the customer paid $150, she was told she was "$350 short," because that's what the user charges for … [Read more...] about Make-up artist branded ‘scammer’ for charging woman extra as she’s a bride
Robert Crimo’s father lost mayoral race to gun-control Democrat
The father of a man who has been arrested in the wake of a deadly mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois reportedly ran for mayor of the city in 2019 and was defeated by a pro-gun control Democrat. Robert E. Crimo III was apprehended by police following a manhunt on Monday but has not yet been charged with any crime. He had been named as a "person of interest" following the shooting that left six people dead and dozens more injured. Crimo's father, Bob Crimo Jr., ran for mayor of Highland Park in 2019 and was defeated by incumbent Mayor Nancy Rotering, according to a number of media reports at the time and since Crimo III was arrested. Marjorie Taylor Greene pushes link between medication and mass shootings
Marjorie Taylor Greene has suggested—without evidence—a link between shootings and medication, following mass shooting in Highland Park, Chicago, on July 4. Representative Greene, the Republican from Georgia, on Monday tweeted an FBI wanted poster for Robert E. Crimo III , the 22-year-old named a "person of interest" over the shootings at a Fourth of July parade that left at least six dead and 30 injured. Crimo was arrested later that day. "Is this going to be another story where some crazy manifesto will be found? Greene wrote. "Are we going to be told every 'weapon of war' and amount of ammo he bought yet the public won't be told his prescription drug history or recreational drug history." Police have released limited information about Crimo, who had not been charged early morning Tuesday. His potential use of medication is not known. "When are we going to have an honest conversation about drug abuse, mental illness, and SSRI's??? And deadly side effects." Greene asked … [Read more...] about Marjorie Taylor Greene pushes link between medication and mass shootings
