Activist Sam Walton and Rev Daniel Woodhouse have been acquitted after breaking-in to BAE Systems factory to ‘disarm’ Typhoon fighter jets. By Ceasefire Bites This afternoon, Reverend Daniel Woodhouse and Sam Walton, a Quaker activist from London, were found not guilty at Burnley Magistrates Court, following their arrest for trying to disarm Typhoon fighter jets at BAE Systems’ site in Warton, Lancashire on 29 January 2017. Their aim had been to stop the jets, which had Saudi markings painted on them, from going to Saudi Arabia where they would be used to support the ongoing bombing of Yemen. Sam and Daniel successfully argued that their intention was to save innocent lives and prevent war crimes, by physically disabling the warplanes. The two campaigners broke in via a fence on the perimeter of the site, and got within five feet of the warplanes before being stopped by BAE security. The court heard evidence about the scale of the brutal bombardment, and the many … [Read more...] about Reverend and Quaker activist found not guilty after trying to disarm BAE fighter jets headed for Yemen

A HIGHLY-advanced stealth fighter jet will tear through the skies above RIAT as US aviation teams follow up last year’s show-stopping display at RAF Fairford. The F-35A Lightning II will display at the air tattoo as it focuses on the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force. A fifth-generation fighter, the Lockheed Martin jet will take part in a ‘now and then’ formation of US warplanes by the F-35 Heritage Flight Team. Renowned aviation artist David Bent immortalised the F-35B, a ‘jump jet’ version of the aircraft, in a painting blending his pioneering approach and landscape geometry after it debuted at the air show in 2016. The Old Town resident, who along with his partner Carole has hosted Red Arrows and other ace pilots at his studio, produced a series of limited edition prints of the striking depiction entitled The Final Touchdown. The A model confirmed by organisers this week has conventional take-off and landing while the B has short-take off … [Read more...] about Stealth fighter jet announced for RIAT line-up

0 Have your say A passenger plane was involved in a near miss with an US Navy fighter jet as it approached a Scottish airport, according to investigators. The Loganair Saab 340 was approaching Sumburgh Airport on Shetland on August 8 last year when it came within 3600ft vertically and 2.1 nautical miles laterally of a US FA-18 Super Hornet fighter. The supersonic combat jet, which has a top speed of over 1180 per hour, had taken off from a US aircraft carrier taking part in the multinational Saxon Warrior 17 exercise off the coast. The civilian pilot, who was travelling at 300km per hour, did not see the military aircraft potentially just a few seconds away, but received a warning from his onboard traffic collision and avoidance system (TCAS) to “descend, descend”. He disconnected autopilot and manoeuvred the plane until being advised he was “clear of conflict”.READ MORE: Alex Salmond is taking his Fringe stage show on a UK tourREAD MORE: Donald Trump … [Read more...] about LoganAir plane in near miss with US fighter jet over Shetland
There has been a confusion over whether Qatari fighter jets were deployed to intercept two passenger planes operated by the UAE in quick succession. With airlines being tight-lipped about the allegations, the issue has now hit international platforms to debate what exactly happened. The tiny Sunni kingdom of UAE, one of the states which rallied behind Saudi Arabia launching a Gulf blockade against Qatar in 2017, had said Qatari air force dispatched fighters twice to intercept civilian aircraft. The UAE's state-run news agency WAM first reported the alleged event on Monday (15 January). Those commercial aircraft were en route to Bahrain when the alleged interception took place. The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority called the interception as "a flagrant and serious threat to the safety of civil aviation and a clear violation of international laws and conventions". While one of the two aircraft is thought to belong to the Emirati airlines, it is still unclear who operated the other … [Read more...] about Did Qatari fighter jets intercept Emirati passenger planes or not?
