FRANKIE DETTORI hailed Inspiral a “true champion” after she battled to Group 1 glory in Deauville. The Italian steered the three-year-old filly to beat the boys in the Jacques Le Marois for his gaffer John Gosden. The Cheveley Park homebred was sent off a 7-4 shot and kept David Simcock’s Light Infantry at bay in the dying strides by a neck. She proved her Falmouth Stakes flop, when stuffed at 1-7, was just a bad day at the office as hot favourite and 2000 Guineas winner Coroebus was stuffed back in fifth. Dettori, 51, said: “We were scratching our heads after Newmarket, after her fantastic performance in the Coronation at Royal Ascot. “She was taking on a Guineas winner and proper horses here. She showed today that she’s a true champion. She's back! Ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi jailed for six more years
Myanmar's ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been found guilty on more corruption charges and jailed for another six years. The trial in the military-ruled country was held behind closed doors and her lawyers were forbidden by a gagging order from revealing information about the proceedings. The 77-year-old has been in detention since February 2021 when the military seized power in Myanmar in a coup . On Monday a court convicted the deposed leader in four corruption cases, a source with knowledge of the proceedings told the Reuters news agency. Ms Suu Kyi was found guilty of misusing funds from the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation - an organisation she founded promoting health and education - to build a home, and leasing government-owned land at a discounted rate. She denied all the charges, and her lawyers are expected to appeal. Macron says Putin using gas as ‘weapon of war’ amid rationing fears
F rench President Emmanuel Macron has accused Russia of using energy as a “weapon of war” as the chief executive of oil and gas giant Shell warned gas rationing in Europe this winter was possible. Mr Macron yesterday told citizens to "prepare for a scenario where we have to manage completely without Russian gas." "The summer, early autumn will be very hard," he said. "Russia is using energy, like it is using food, as a weapon of war." He said the government would prepare a "sobriety plan" to conserve energy, which would start with turning off public lights at night when they aren't useful. "We need a general mobilisation," Mr Macron said in a televised address for Bastille Day. Ben van Beurden, chief executive of Shell, echoed the French president’s remarks, saying Russia had shown it is “able and willing to weaponise energy supplies.” Mr van Beurden said Moscow had “surprised” the market and told governments to be prepared for the Kremlin to restrict gas further. “For a … [Read more...] about Macron says Putin using gas as ‘weapon of war’ amid rationing fears

Man Utd ‘whoring themselves out’ to try and sign Frenkie de Jong moans Rio Ferdinand
Rio Ferdinand has slammed Manchester United for "whoring themselves out" to try and sign Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong . The Dutchman has been the club's number one transfer target since Erik ten Hag took the reins back in May though even after agreeing a £70million deal for him last month De Jong has made it clear he has little interest in the move amid links to rivals to Chelsea . Despite the snub, United are still courting the midfielder in the hopes that they can change his mind before the transfer window closes, much to the frustration of Red Devils legend Ferdinand. Master or expert, you still practice: Louisiana martial arts expert teaches tai chi and kung fu
Whether you prefer quick and fast or slow and easy, Zhuang's Tai Chi and Kung Fu Academy has you covered. Like a flowing river, the ancient Chinese martial art tai chi consists of slow movements empowered by a continuous flux of strategic grace. Tai chi Master Yajun Zhuang describes the rhythmic art as "slow, agile and harmonious." He teaches two internal styles of Chinese martial arts, qigong and tai chi, at his studio, where "chi" is the driving force of it all. In contrast, kung fu is "strong, hard and fast," he said. Despite its intensity, it requires chi, too. "You should use your mind to mobilize your chi. Then, use your chi to mobilize the body," Zhuang reminds his students during sessions. Chi translates to "breath." It is used to describe the vital energy of life that flows through all things. Chi exists in every martial art movement. The key to tai chi is to take things slow, which is opposite of the way kung fu is seen in movies, Zhuang said. "People don't … [Read more...] about Master or expert, you still practice: Louisiana martial arts expert teaches tai chi and kung fu
Iran denies any link with Salman Rushdie’s attacker and blames the writer himself
Tehran — Iran on Monday denied any link with the attacker of British author Salman Rushdie but blamed the writer himself for "insulting" Islam in the novel "The Satanic Verses."
