It's no secret Meghan Markle and Prince Harry eventually plan to have children now that they're married. The newlyweds have previously spoken fondly of their desires to start their own family when they're good and ready, however, according to British law, Markle and Harry won't actually have parental custody of their own kids. Instead, Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II will technically have ownership of the children. "The sovereign has legal custody of the minor grandchildren," Marlene Koenig, renowned royal author and expert, revealed during an interview with Australia's News.com.au on Wednesday. The law dates back some 300 years during King George I's reign in the 1700s. "The law's never been changed. He did it because he had a very poor relationship with his son, the future King George II, so they had this law passed that meant the King was the guardian of his grandchildren," Koenig continued. It was 1717 when a group of judges voted to pass the law, proposed by George … [Read more...] about Meghan Markle won’t have custody of her own children with Prince Harry, royal expert says

Prince Harry, growing up without Princess Diana
In 1997, Newsweek reported extensively on the untimely death of Princess Diana and its aftermath. In this piece, Jerry Adler and Donna Foote report on how the tragedy will affect Diana's children, Prince William and Prince Harry. We are republishing the piece on the occasion of Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle. She had tried, she often said, to give her two sons as normal a life as possible. So when Prince William said he'd like to meet one of the world's most beautiful women, Diana did what any mother of a teenage boy would do—phoned Cindy Crawford, whom she barely knew, and invited her to tea. Arriving at Kensington Palace, the supermodel found herself alone in a room with William, where they chatted for a few minutes until Diana joined them, and, noticing her son blushing, confided to Crawford: "He's just like me; when he runs out of things to say, he just blushes." In a few years, when he adds to his titles that of World's Most Eligible Bachelor, William (now 15) … [Read more...] about Prince Harry, growing up without Princess Diana

What a year it's been for Prince Harry. In May, he finally married Meghan Markle, and the world seems more obsessed with him than ever before. Since his big day, we've watched him attend Royal Ascot, speculated over his views on Donald Trump and guessed where the couple will go on their honeymoon. As children, the boys were photographed at Disney World and homeless shelters alike, as part of Diana's attempt to expose them to the real world. Even after Diana's death in 1997, Harry was just as curious about exploring the world. After he finished school, he took a gap year in Australia, working as his father had done at a cattle station. He also worked with orphaned children in Lesotho. … [Read more...] about These are the best photos from every year of Prince Harry’s life

Williams died Wednesday at the age of 98 . We think you'll agree, he is, indeed, a true American hero. [This story was originally broadcast May 30, 2021] Hershel "Woody" Williams is literally one-of-a-kind. At the age of 97 he is the last living recipient of the Medal of Honor from World War II. He grew up on a farm in West Virginia during the Great Depression. "There were 11 born to my family," he said. "Only five of us survived to adulthood." After Pearl Harbor , he tried to enlist in the Marines, but was rejected as too short. When the Marines started taking horrendous casualties … [Read more...] about Remembering WWII Medal of Honor recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams
