Mum feeds her family for under £1.40 a head as cost of living crisis leaves her with just £27 a week
A mum of two is left with only £27 per week after paying her bills as a result of the cost of living crisis . Stacey Victoria, from Huddersfield, has seen her electric bills rise from £102 to more than £150 per month, alongside soaring gas prices too – despite ‘not using any extra energy’. In total, she forks out almost £300 per month on gas and electric bills. The 35-year-old is left with no choice but to shop in the reduced section in supermarkets. To cope, she’s had to get savvy with her spending, hunting down yellow sticker deals and reduced price buys. As a result, she’s managed to cook meals costing no more than £1.40 per head. ‘The rising costs of everything have affected me massively,’ Stacey said. ‘It has given me more of a drive to cut costs even more than I already have.’ Stacey shops around weekly to find the best bargains possible – and can make her family meals from as little as £1.33 per head a day. She said: ‘By living on reduced and free … [Read more...] about Mum feeds her family for under £1.40 a head as cost of living crisis leaves her with just £27 a week

‘We’re actually really nice people’: Maligned Pāpāmoa freedom campers say they’re trying to combat cost of living
Pāpāmoa residents are frustrated by freedom campers overstaying in a beachside reserve carpark. ‘Stupid’ man who let stranger park on his drive still stuck with car seven months on
A man who 'stupidly' allowed a stranger to park on his drive more than seven months ago is still stuck with it. Omar Badran agreed to let someone use his driveway back in December 2021 because he doesn't drive himself - but says the motorist has outright refused to collect the vehicle. Now Omar says the whole ordeal has made him miserable, with many people calling him stupid for letting the driver park there in the first place. READ MORE: Brawl at Mrs Brown's Boys show and some fans 'thought it was part of the act' "This entire thing has made me really miserable and so many people have told me I’m stupid for having allowed him to park on my driveway, but I was just trying to do a nice thing,” said Omar, of Stoke in Plymouth. “I agreed on the condition that when I wanted to use my driveway again, I would be able to.” With no luck in getting rid of the car, Omar says he has since explored legal avenues but was baffled to hear it was legally considered a ‘grey area'. … [Read more...] about ‘Stupid’ man who let stranger park on his drive still stuck with car seven months on
Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit
A delegation of Cabinet ministers are set to meet Boris Johnson at No10 as he heads out of a car crash Liaison Committee meeting this evening to tell him to go. 'Men in grey suits' Welsh Secretary Simon Hart, grim-faced Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis are set to tell the Prime Minister he had lost the confidence of his party. The revelation the PM knew about claims against “grope” accused MP Chris Pincher, then promoted him, then “forgot” he’d been told, was the last straw for many MPs. Chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid led the way yesterday for a wave of Tory resignations . The doomed PM has seen dozens of his own MPs quit in 24 hours, including ministers, parliamentary private secretaries and trade envoys. Meanwhile, Tories have discussed changing the rules of no confidence votes - to force the PM out as soon as next week if he opts to squat in No10. In a day of feverish drama at Westminster the … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit

Cost of living: Chocolate producers forced to raise prices
By Mared Ifan & Elen Davies Published 1 hour ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A chocolate manufacturer in Wales has said it is feeling the pinch as the cost of living continues to rise. The "astronomical" costs of electricity, heating and ingredients have led to companies like Wickedly Welsh Chocolate having to raise prises. It is the first time since the company was established eight years ago that Wickedly Welsh has increased prices. Co-director of the Pembrokeshire-based company Karen Owen called it "a really tough time". "We have made changes, we've brought equipment in to help us with efficiency in the factory, to improve what we do and how we do it, so that we're as efficient as possible and continue to give quality products to our customers, but at a price that's still affordable to them," said Ms Owen.
