Nasa has announced it is collaborating with its Chinese counterpart on a lunar mission, amid US warnings against sharing technology with the country. The US space agency has been in discussions with the China National Space Administration (CNSA) to collaborate on lunar landing research after gaining approval from Congress. The collaboration requires Nasa to navigate a strict legal framework in the US aimed at preventing a technology transfer to China and comes during a period of strained relations between the two countries. It follows reports that the US government is on the verge of indicting the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei for allegedly stealing trade secrets from US companies. The collaboration between Nasa and the CNSA follows China's successful mission to land a spacecraft on the far side of the Moon - the first country to achieve such a feat. The probe, Chang'e-4, carried a set of instruments … [Read more...] about Nasa to work with China’s space agency on Chang’e-4 lunar research

A Chinese spacecraft is attempting to make the first ever landing on the far side of the Moon on Thursday, in a milestone for space exploration. The China National Space Administration (CNSA) is preparing to land the robotic spacecraft in the South Pole-Aitken basin, the largest, oldest and deepest crater on the moon's surface. The probe, the Chang'e-4, entered a planned orbit on Sunday "to prepare for the first-ever soft landing on the far side of the moon", Xinhua news agency said, citing the CNSA. The CNSA has not given the exact time of the attempt to touch down on the unexplored lunar surface, but reports in China's state-run media suggest Chang'e-4 could begin descending early on Thursday morning. Targeting the far side, or the "dark side" of the Moon is riskier and more complex than previous ventures, including Chang'e-3's mission to the Moon in 2013, since direct communication with the spacecraft is not possible and the terrain is rugged. The Moon is tidally locked … [Read more...] about China’s Chang-e’4 mission aims to land on Moon’s far side

Beijing did not immediately make available details on when the landing will occur, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP). Locked in a tidal embrace with the same lunar face always aimed at the Earth, the moon's far side — also known as the ‘dark' side — has not been explored on the surface, although numerous orbital flyovers have made detailed maps. The Chang'e 4 spacecraft, launched December 7 on a Long March-3B rocket, initially entered lunar orbit five days later on December 12, deploying a landing craft and a surface rover … [Read more...] about China Lunar Spacecraft in Position for Humanity’s 1st-Ever Dark Side Landing
2018 has been a great year for the space sector in Luxembourg. After Spaceresources.lu was launched and the law on space mining was published, it was time to do business. As usual, Luxembourg is a trailblazer ! LSA, what is it about? On 12 September 2018, Luxembourg took another step forward, officially launching the Luxembourg Space Agency. It is not about sending rockets to Mars but rather about providing an attractive business, legal, and regulatory framework to companies and investors to develop this industry in Luxembourg. With a strong political will, the Spaceresources.lu initiative (a platform dedicated to the sector launched in 2016), and the first space mining legislation in the World published in 2017, Luxembourg is regarded worldwide as both a first-mover and a proactive player in this sector. According to a Delano article, 150 space companies have already contacted the Luxembourg Minister of Economy, Etienne Schneider, to establish themselves in … [Read more...] about Luxembourg: watch this space !

Now, the space agency is ready to take the next step by sending the Chang'e-4 probe to Earth's natural satellite. If the Long March 3B launch of the Beidou sats is a success then China will be clear to proceed with the Chang'e-4 lunar far side landing mission, expected to launch from Xichang late December 7/early Dec 8 local time. pic.twitter.com/v8arne0MXs — Andrew Jones (@AJ_FI) November 16, 2018 The probe will attempt to land in the Von Karman crater in the moon's southern … [Read more...] about China Will Launch First Probe to Moon’s Far Side Later This Week (PHOTOS)
