An annual meteor shower is expected to be more dazzling than ever as a lack of moonlight in the UK helps the shooting stars shine brighter. The Geminid meteor shower, which returns every year, will appear brighter than usual because it won't be fighting the moonlight. Those will to brave the cold will be treated to a dazzling display best seen between 1 and 2am on Thursday. Robin Scagell, vice-president of the Society for Popular Astronomy, said: "Weather permitting, it could be one of the best displays we've had for a long time. The last one like this was in 2014, when there was very little moon. "On average, you should see one or two meteors a minute, maybe 90 per hour under really good conditions. Royal wedding florist gives sneak peek of day’s arrangements
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's florist has revealed some of the flowers she will be using as she pulls together the arrangements for Saturday. Philippa Craddock's designs will feature silver birch and English oak, which she will be sourcing locally, including from Windsor Great Park. Birch trees are one of the biggest contributors among tree pollen in the UK. Ms Craddock said working with the royal couple was a "collaborative" process and the pair had arrived at similar ideas for the commission. Although she would not disclose the full arrangements, she did speak about using the foliage of native trees. MARINES are taking on sabotage raids and spying to help ease pressure on the SAS and SBS. It is part of an overhaul of the Marines into a Future Commando Force. The move saves top-trained troops for key missions, said Colonel Simon Rogers of the Navy’s Special Ops Cell . He said: “Special Operations is not now just the preserve of special forces. “Commando forces are being developed, allowing us to save the highest end troops for the most demanding operations.” Vice Admiral Jerry Kyd said more ships would be based further East for a shooting war if necessary. Australia PM stands by Cabinet minister accused of rape
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Monday stood by an unnamed Cabinet member after an allegation that a senior minister in his Cabinet raped a 16-year-old girl more than 30 years ago. Morrison rejected calls to suspend the minister, saying the unnamed official "vigorously denied" the allegations, which have now been referred to police. The prime minister, who is already under mounting pressure to tackle what has been described as sexist culture within Australian politics, said the minister was innocent until proven guilty. The identity of the minister has not been released owing to Australia's standards on defamation. Sixteen members of Morrison's 22-minister Cabinet are men.
