Safe, consensual sex between two (or more, if you fancy) people should be fun. You’re trusting someone with one of your more intimate moments, and it’s arguably when you’re at your most vulnerable. Whether you’ve just met, or met their entire family at uncle Dave’s wedding, sex is about trust. Trust that you’ll both have a good time, and trust that you’re both comfortable with whatever the sex is for – whether that be for babies, or for a no-strings 48-hour shagathon with someone you’ll never see again. I imagine we’ve all had the conversations about what contraception someone’s on, or who’s bringing the condom(s). Some of us have even had the conversations about if we’re ready to come off contraception, STI tests and about our sexual history. So imagine when that trust is used against you. Stealthing is a prime example of it. It’s when safe, consensual sex morphs into something you didn’t – and would perhaps never – agree to. Shockingly, most women don’t even … [Read more...] about Stealthing is rape plain and simple – but women won’t report it unless they’re believed

Covid and cost of living rise sees 2,600 grassroots football clubs fold, study finds
The pandemic and rise in the cost of living has led to 2,600 grassroots football clubs folding in last 12 months, a report has found. A further 6,000 are at risk of closure between now and the end of next season. The Price to Play Report asked 1,000 parents of grassroots footballers, aged 5-16, how their football had been impacted by the pandemic and, latterly, by the cost-of-living crisis. It found seven per cent of clubs have closed, and a further 16 per cent of parents fear their child’s club could be the next to go. The new report is the sequel to energy company Utilita’s State of Play Report, published in 2020, which revealed the devastation caused by the pandemic on grassroots football. As the previous report had warned, 10 per cent of players have not returned to the pitch, with 58 per cent of parents saying affordability got in the way of play. And the number of people who can’t afford kit has almost doubled from 18 - to 34 per cent of families. Utilita worked … [Read more...] about Covid and cost of living rise sees 2,600 grassroots football clubs fold, study finds

Sturgeon pledges to tackle child poverty ‘scandal’ after failing to make progress over past 14 years
Nicola Sturgeon has claimed that ending child poverty will become her latest “driving mission”, despite failing to reduce it during her previous 14 years in Government. In a speech to party activists on Monday, the SNP leader claimed that if she wins re-election, she would introduce new policies aimed at ending the “scandal” and lift tens of thousands of children out of privation. However, opponents accused her of a “record of shame” over almost a decade-and-a-half in power, which includes five years as the SNP health secretary and seven as First Minister. According to a Scottish Government report published last week, relative child poverty north of the border has been “gradually increasing” over the past decade while absolute child poverty “has remained largely stable”. The analysis added: “Persistent poverty has started to gradually increase.” Rates of child poverty in Ms Sturgeon’s own Glasgow Southside constituency are also the highest in Scotland, according to a study … [Read more...] about Sturgeon pledges to tackle child poverty ‘scandal’ after failing to make progress over past 14 years
No, They Didn’t Find the Cause of SIDS
Sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS, “ will be a thing of the past ,” according to Carmel Harrington, a sleep researcher at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, in Australia. A press release describes her new study, out this month, as a “game-changing” effort and a “world-first breakthrough” that could prevent future deaths from the tragic illness. Celebrations quickly spread on social media: “THEY FOUND THE CAUSE OF SIDS. Excuse me while I cry for all the parents,” one viral tweet declared. “Closest thing to a miracle in a long time,” said another . The press soon picked up the story. On Friday, a segment on Good Morning America touted Harrington’s “very, very important study” of SIDS, while a story in the New York Post promised that her data would “ bring closure to countless parents who have endured the nightmare of losing a child.” Rarely is a medical research finding a "breakthrough." But this one - discovering a biomarker in blood that indicates babies' … [Read more...] about No, They Didn’t Find the Cause of SIDS

Exclusive: ‘Victim’ breaks silence to reveal alleged sexual harassment at hands of Christ Church dean
A woman who has claimed to have been sexually harassed by the former dean of Christ Church, Oxford , has spoken about her experience for the first time, saying “it is insulting he is trying to claim being the victim”. Previously known only as “Miss X”, Alannah Jeune has waived her right to anonymity to reveal how reporting the Very Rev Prof Martyn Percy for allegedly stroking her hair in the sacristy in Oct 2020 cost her her thesis. “This has had a massive impact on my life,” the 29-year-old told The Telegraph in an exclusive interview. “I’ve lost my job, my housing and my PhD over this. “The whole thing was weird and creepy. He assaulted me while wearing a collar in a cathedral.” Until now, she claimed only one side of a four-year saga, which saw the 59-year-old Anglican priest leave the prestigious college last month with a seven-figure settlement, had been told. Last weekend, the married theologian gave an interview with The Times in which he suggested that Miss … [Read more...] about Exclusive: ‘Victim’ breaks silence to reveal alleged sexual harassment at hands of Christ Church dean

Mysterious cases of hepatitis in kids hit 300 – the 9 signs parents must not ignore
The sudden rise of hepatitis cases in children is prompting health bosses to remind parents to stay alert for symptoms as the outbreak grows. The reasons behind the sudden spike in hepatitis are not clear as the World Health Organisation revealed on Friday there were 300 probable cases spread over at least 20 different countries. This is an extra 18 cases recorded as of May 3, compared to April 29. Health bosses have reported that more than half of hepatitis cases are in the UK, with 163 detected since January 1 this year. Fortunately, none of the children have died in the UK but worryingly 11 have needed a liver transplant and 13 children are in hospital, while 88 have been discharged and made a fully recovery. According to UK health chiefs, vomiting and jaundice are the most common symptoms experienced by children in hospital with liver inflammation.
