BristolLive has been told about an incident that happened recently regarding City's U15s playing Cheltenham Town's U15s. A source attending the game has reported that the City u15s coach Marvin Brown was praised by several parents following the match that occurred at Clevedon Town's Hand Stadium ground. A rival player was told off for swearing and inappropriate behaviour and this was supported by several parents watching on and the coaching team at Bristol City. Unfortunately, the opposition coach's conduct - according to several sources - was antagonistic and was not similar, and we understand that Cheltenham Town's Gerard McGinty received several complaints from parents following the game. With boys aged 14 playing, the language and behaviour was deemed unacceptable to many on-lookers, for the match that eventually ended 3-1. Several parents were involved in the 'incident' and according to our information, City's coach was praised for acting in a creditable manner, with scouts from … [Read more...] about Bristol City U15s coach praised after Cheltenham Town ‘incident’
Port Vale played in front of their lowest league crowd for more a decade as they scored an injury-time equaliser to salvage a point at home to Cheltenham Town. Just 3,109 watched Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Vale Park, beating the 2,869 who witnessed the game against Yeovil in January 2008. Those that stayed away may have avoided the driving rain and chilly conditions, but they also missed a thrilling end that saw two goals scored in the final three minutes. It makes it back-to-back 2-2 draws for Vale, and while manager Neil Aspin saw an improvement from the draw at Morecambe, he wants more consistency to get the team moving up the League Two standings. He said: "Last week was a poor performance, and we got a draw. "This week was a better performance, but not enough to move us up the league quickly." Vale might have expected more against a team 21st in the division, but as Aspin said: "Every team has got a chance against everyone - there's no game where you don't have a chance. "We're … [Read more...] about Port Vale 2, Cheltenham Town 2: Lowest crowd in decade for thrilling draw
NEIL Aspin argued that today's result was a lose-lose, with both Port Vale and Cheltenham Town ending up disappointed not to have won after a 2-2 draw at Vale Park. Vale would have gone into the match confident of a win, at home to a team 21st in League Two, and they took the lead in fine style after just 13 minutes when Cristian Montano scored his fifth goal in four games. However, they were quickly pegged back by the visiting Robins, who then dominated the second half when they had the driving rain at their backs instead of in their faces, and got a deserved second in the 89th minute. But Aspin's boys did not give up, and got an equaliser in the second minute of added time, Antony Kay scoring a late goal for the second match in a row - after he sparked the comeback against Morecambe last weekend. Valiants grab late, late equaliser in thrilling draw After the match, Aspin said: "I think they'll be disappointed they've not won because we scored so late, … [Read more...] about Port Vale 2, Cheltenham 2: Aspin criticises defending after thrilling finish
It's matchday... and it could be a rather special one for Port Vale legend Tom Pope . If the talismanic striker nets twice against Cheltenham Town today - not beyond the realms of possibility - it will take him to 100 goals for Neil Aspin's side. The Stoke-born former window fitter has 10 goals this term, 39 from his current spell at Vale Park, which - added to his 69 goals in his first period in Burslem - takes the 33-year-old to 98 strikes so far. He might fancy his chances against a Robins side with just one win in their last four. Cheltenham are currently 21st in League Two. We’ve teamed up with BetVictor’s Charlie McCann to preview the day’s racing. There is significant rain forecast for Cheltenham ahead of and during Saturday’s card, the highlight of which is the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup. Rather Be is 3/1 market leader with BetVictor having been brought down at the top of the hill four out in the BetVictor Gold Cup when travelling like the winner. Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old acts well enough on soft ground but is considered at his best on a decent surface and he is reluctantly overlooked. The each-way vote – in the expectation that there is significant rain – is for Cepage (1.55) who is 10/1 at BetVictor who are betting each way four places (1/5th odds) on this 15-runner handicap. Trained by Venetia Williams – who saddled the winner of the corresponding race four years ago – the selection has a good record fresh, has a nice low-weight of 10st 5lbs and, as a six-year-old, is open to significant … [Read more...] about Cepage looks good each-way value at Cheltenham
