Manchester City could claim an historic treble on Saturday should they defeat Watford in the FA Cup final. After already winning the Carabao Cup and winning the race for the Premier League title in thrilling fashion over Liverpool, City just need to win at Wembley to become the first team in English football history to win all three domestic trophies on offer. But that's not the only record City could break on Saturday, as they could also become the record scorers in an FA Cup campaign. A record currently held by Chelsea, 20, when they lifted the trophy in the 2011/12 season. The goals have been flying in in all competitions this season for City and the FA Cup is no different. They kicked off their route to the final with a 7-0 thrashing of the Championship's Rotherham United, which set the tone. Burnley came next and they were dispatched 5-0 before the Blues traveled to League 2' Newport County and won 4-1. There was yet another high scoring affair in the quarter-finals against … [Read more...] about Man City can set new FA Cup record against Watford at Wembley

In February, City beat Chelsea on penalties to hoist the League Cup. On 11 May, they claimed their second successive Premier League title thanks to a 4-1 win at Brighton. Though their points tally of 98 was less than last season's haul of 100, City's pursuit of that mark was largely ceremonial having already won the championship with half a dozen games to spare. This season Liverpool were on their back until the last game. With Jurgen Klopp's side ultimately vanquished, mid-table Watford, who lost twice to City during the Premier League campaign, impede the path to glory. "We lost both games but I think we showed that we can beat them," said Watford manager Javi Garci. "We competed really well in both games in different moments. In the first game we lost 2-1 but we competed until the end and had chances at the end. "In the second one we kept the result until the second half and then they scored from an offside position and the game changed." City's last trip to Wembley for the FA Cup … [Read more...] about Manchester City target FA Cup to seal domestic treble
As we head towards this weekend's FA Cup final between Man City and Watford, Everton fans won't be able to help thinking about that day in 2009. The Blues' last appearance in a final was at Wembley against Chelsea, but ultimately David Moyes' side fell short with a 2-1 defeat. That day will be remembered for a lot of moments, not least Louis Saha making history with the fastest ever goal in an FA Cup final. And, those Evertonians were watching will also remember a rather surprising second-half appearance. Lars Jacobsen spent most of his year at Everton injured, but did make one of his five appearances for the club in that special match. And, speaking exclusively to the ECHO's Royal Blue Podcast, he's opened up on his memories of the day and his surprise that he made it onto the pitch. CLICK HERE to listen to Adam Jones' exclusive chat with former Everton star Lars Jacobsen He said: "When you start on the bench, you don't expect to get on as a right-back! Manchester City and Watford meet in Saturday’s final, which is set to be played in front of a sell-out crowd at Wembley. Even if that is the case, though, the average crowd in this year’s tournament will be below 12,000 for the first time this decade. Every previous season since 2009-10 has averaged over 12,500, with the highest figure in that time being 14,085 in 2016 when Manchester United won the tournament. This year’s tournament so far has seen an average crowd of 11,287 per game. That is sure to rise after the final, but only to around 11,800. A crowd of 88,522 – the average of the last nine finals – would mean a season average of 11,802 while even a 90,000 sell-out would add only a further 10 … [Read more...] about FA Cup counts lowest average attendance in last decade
