U.S. airlines facing a pilot shortage are considering measures that would make it easier to get pilots trained faster, including halving the number of flight hours needed to become a pilot. The pilot shortage has led to flight cancellations across the country and airlines cutting regional planes, Business Insider reported . “The pilot shortage for the industry is real, and most airlines are simply not going to be able to realize their capacity plans because there simply aren’t enough pilots, at least not for the next five-plus years,” United CEO Scott Kirby said in April during a quarterly earnings call, according to CNBC . On May 13, Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci posted a YouTube video where he apologized for flight cancellations, saying “we had 63 fewer pilots than what we planned for when we built our scheduled,” which he said led to a “ripple effect.” “By the time we caught this error, April and May schedules were bid on by our pilots and flight attendants, making … [Read more...] about U.S. Airlines Desperate For Pilots Consider Cutting Training Requirements | The Daily Wire

Pilots’ most convincing accounts of UFO encounters after US Congress hearing bombshells
A bombshell hearing this week added weight to theories that aliens exist as US officials blew the lid off encounters with UFOs. The Pentagon revealed there had been 400 UFO sightings recorded when quizzed by US Congress. During the public hearing, the first of its kind in 50 years, two senior defence officials, Ronald Moultrie and Scott Bray, talked through several encounters with "unidentified aerial phenomena" - aka flying saucers. Last year, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence outlined progress made by its Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force in a preliminary report to Congress. The hearing also came five months after a "National Defense Authorization Act" required the US military to establish a permanent office that would gather and look into UAPs. That Act also stated there should be an annual report and semi-annual briefings for Congress on UAPs. But can UAPs or UFOs really be out there? Some pilots' accounts of encounters with flying saucers … [Read more...] about Pilots’ most convincing accounts of UFO encounters after US Congress hearing bombshells
Former American Idol star Caleb Kennedy granted bond after fatal car crash
Caleb Kennedy, a former contestant on American Idol , has been given bond after being involved in a fatal car crash, it has been reported. On February 8 this year, Kennedy was said to have been behind the wheel of his truck when it was driven onto a private driveway, colliding with a building, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. A 54-year-old called Larry Parris was run over by Kennedy, investigators said, with the man dying from his injuries in hospital. At the time, the singer – who appeared on American Idol in 2021 – was charged with driving under the influence, resulting in the death of Parris. He has reportedly been in jail since February. On Friday May 20, a judge gave Kennedy a $50,000 (£40,000) bond, instructing him to receive treatment for his mental health while on home detention. ‘Very relieved Caleb got a bond. Should have never taken this long. We look forward to proving this was a terrible accident caused by his medication,’ said his attorney … [Read more...] about Former American Idol star Caleb Kennedy granted bond after fatal car crash

‘So creative!’: $6 DIY wedding centerpieces stun internet
A DIY hack about how to make sophisticated floral centerpieces to top tables at weddings for just $6 has gone viral, leaving the internet stunned. In a video shared on TikTok earlier in May, Kaiandnika shows how to build up tall centerpieces using just some cheap glass candle holders, a kind of super glue that is specific for gluing glass together, and some plastic bowls to hold the flowers on the top. The footage shows Kaiandnika gluing all the parts together and once they have dried up, they're ready to paint. In further comments, she explained that a crafty friend helped her paint her centerpieces with gold spray paint, and once ready she added real flowers and leaves on top for a nice touch. In the comments, she also explained that while $6 was roughly the price she had paid in 2021 for each finished centerpiece, now with rising costs the price would be slightly higher. She also said she may have actually paid less than $6 each, as she bought five of the six items for … [Read more...] about ‘So creative!’: $6 DIY wedding centerpieces stun internet
Drinking coffee ‘can reduce your risk of cancer’, scientists say
For many people, the day hasn’t really started before you’ve managed to get some coffee in your system. Now, new guidelines suggest that your coffee habit may help to reduce your risk of a number of cancers. New guidelines published by the American Cancer Society suggest that drinking coffee can reduce your risk of liver and endometrial cancer, cancer of the mouth, pharynx and larynx and skin cancer. The advice also suggests that drinking coffee may contribute to a reduced risk of some digestive cancers. The guidelines, which were developed by a research team led by Dr Cheryl Rock, explain: “Whether coffee consumption reduces or increases the risk of different types of cancers has been an active area of research. “Studies have suggested that coffee consumption likely reduces the risk of liver and endometrial cancers, although confounding by smoking may explain this latter association. Drinking coffee can reduce your risk of liver and endometrial cancer, cancer of the … [Read more...] about Drinking coffee ‘can reduce your risk of cancer’, scientists say
Pugs are not ‘typical dogs’ because of their ‘lifetime of suffering’, says study
Pugs can no longer be considered a “typical dog” because extreme breeding has given them a long list of severe health issues . The desire for extreme, baby-like dogs with bulging eyes , folds of skin and flat faces has led to long-lasting and life-shortening health problems , which mean the animal is subjected to a “lifetime of suffering”. Dr Dan O’Neill, senior lecturer in companion animal epidemiology at the Royal Veterinary College, told The Telegraph that pugs lacked the “basic functions” expected of a canine. “We have dogs that are typical, like Labradors, where they have a long nose and a tail and are not that dissimilar to a wild dog,’’ he said. “Obviously, they have a different temperament but physically they just look like a wolf or a coyote or a dingo or a fox. “We’ve drafted a list of core body functions that any dog should expect to be able to do when it’s born and when it’s alive and these are very basic. “For example, they should be able to blink. It … [Read more...] about Pugs are not ‘typical dogs’ because of their ‘lifetime of suffering’, says study
Glasgow City Council to return ‘stolen’ artefacts to India
Museums are facing pressure to return “stolen” artefacts to India after a council voted to repatriate a 14th century sword in a landmark vote. Glasgow councillors have backed a proposal to send back seven items taken out of India that eventually found their way into exhibitions across the city. Documents submitted to Glasgow City Council show officials from the High Commission of India lodged a request in January for the return of six artefacts “stolen” from Hindu temples and shrines in the 19th century. In March, an additional application made on behalf of the Indian Government asked for a 14th century tulwar, a sword used for ceremonial events, and its scabbard to be brought back after they were scavenged from the Deccan plateau. The items will now be transported to India after councillors recommended their return along with objects looted from Nigeria and belongings taken from a group of massacred Native Americans . The outcome was celebrated as the largest … [Read more...] about Glasgow City Council to return ‘stolen’ artefacts to India
BepiColombo: British spacecraft to blast off to Mercury and attempt to solve solar system’s mysteries
A British-built spacecraft is about to blast off to Mercury . The BepiColombo ship will fly five billion miles to the planet that is closest to our sun. The scientists behind it hope that it can help solve some of the mysteries that hang over the distant world. It might, for instance, contain water ice, hidden in shadows on its otherwise blazing hot surface, scientists speculate – a discovery that could help shed light on the possibility of alien life in our own solar system. It will also look to explain why the planet has such as huge iron core at its centre, and unlock the history of the vast volcanic vents that shook its surface for billions of years. Nasa's most stunning pictures of space Show all 30 BepiColombo is due to blast off from the European spaceport at Kourou, French Guiana, at 2.45am UK time on Saturday October 20.
