Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home
A couple say their Help to Buy dream became a nightmare as they claim to have found 150 problems in their new-build home in two years. Amy Fenn, 24, and fiancé George Watts-Sturrock, 32, bought the £265,000 starter home under the flagship Government scheme. But their joy turned to misery with a seemingly never-ending list of “snags”. The couple claim there was damp and mould, uneven walls and unfinished stairs. They say a sink was wonky, doors were wobbly, worktops damaged, tiling was iffy and drains were blocked with rubble. Then – through sheer bad luck, not down to poor building – there were two floods. In that second, a water tank exploded as horrified Amy and George lay in bed. Amy said: “We heard a huge bang and gushing water and found the tank in our boiler system had literally exploded. It has just been one thing after another.” George, who works in quality assurance, said: “We were so excited to get our first home but it’s been a nightmare.” The detached … [Read more...] about Young couple say they’ve found 150 faults in brand-new £265,000 Help to Buy home

Amy Fenn, 24, and fiancé George Watts-Sturrock, 32, claim to have had endless issues with their "nightmare" new-build - including damp, mould, uneven walls and even a burst water tank and two floods. The pair bought the detached three-bed property in Norfolk in 2018. It was advertised as being part of "a superb collection of stunning homes" by Suffolk builder Hopkins & Moore. It should have been their dream home, but they say it has been "a nightmare". It started with mould in the first week, and then the pair noticed damp, uneven walls and that the stairs were unfinished. They say there was also a wonky sink, wobbly doors, damaged worktops, dodgy tiling and the drains were blocked with rubble. And then to top if off, the couple experienced two floods - one while they lay in bed. Amy told The Mirror : "We heard a huge bang and gushing water and found the tank in our boiler … [Read more...] about Couple say they’ve found 150 FAULTS with ‘mould and burst tank’ in new £265,000 Help to Buy home
Budget at a glance – £18k for pubs, help to buy homes and no rise on booze
Rishi Sunak is to resist a massive tax claw back of the £400billion he’s spent on Covid in Wednesday’s Budget despite UK debt hitting £2.1trillion. In an exclusive interview shadow Chancellor Anneliese Dodds tells him: “Now is not the time.” Instead the Chancellor will give 700,000 shops, pubs, clubs, hotels, restaurants, gyms and hair salons up to £18,000 each to kickstart businesses after the Covid shutdown. Mr Sunak said of his £5billion Restart Grant scheme: “The extra cash will ensure our high street can open their doors with optimism.” Another £425million will go to local authorities to help businesses not covered by the scheme. The Chancellor will also boost the housing market with 95 per cent mortgages from April and a further three month Stamp Duty holiday. It means cash-strapped buyers will only need five per cent deposits on homes up to £600,000 with the Treasury guaranteeing the rest. Only eight low deposit mortgages are now on offer nationwide because of … [Read more...] about Budget at a glance – £18k for pubs, help to buy homes and no rise on booze
