A former singer with Eurovision winners Bucks Fizz will stand for Nigel Farage's Brexit Party at the next general election. Jay Aston was unveiled as the party's candidate in Labour-held London seat of Kensington - which voted around 69% to Remain. In June the Bucks Fizz star revealed a devastating diagnosis of mouth cancer. Just a week later, she underwent a gruelling seven-hour operation to remove a section of her tongue and lymph nodes. It was successful and now the 57-year-old – who has 15-year-old daughter Josie with husband Dave Colquhoun - is cancer-free. But she revealed to the Mirror that it was her time in recovery which prompted her switch into politics - and she is confident she will have time to keep up performances even if she is campaigning. Bucks Fizz won the Eurovision Song Contest 1981 with their song Making Your Mind Up. Speaking to the Mirror, the singer said "we must continue" to be part of Eurovision because "music shouldn't be about politics." She admitted … [Read more...] about Jay Aston: Bucks Fizz Eurovision winner stands for Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party

BORIS Johnson last night insisted Britain can “easily cope” with a No Deal as EU officials accused him of lacking a plan to break the deadlock. Speaking at the G7 summit in France, the PM admitted it was now “touch and go” whether a Brexit agreement could be struck by October 31. He previously put the odds of a cliff-edge exit at a “million to one”. But he again said the EU and Donald Tusk would be to blame for a No Deal.Mr Johnson, who earlier met US President Donald Trump, insisted Brits’ daily lives would barely change. He said: “I think it's highly unlikely that there will be food shortages. “We can get through this. This is a great, great country. . . we can easily cope with a No Deal scenario.” The PM added that Britain would withhold up to £30billion of the £39billion EU divorce bill agreed with Brussels by Theresa May. WE now have until October 31 to work out an exit deal with the EU which the majority of MPs agree with. As Parliament has now been suspended until October 14, it is unclear what kind of deal will be made. Why is there a Brexit delay? Britain had been due to leave the European Union on March 29, 2019. May did have plans to go back to the Commons in early June to give MPs a fourth chance to vote on her Withdrawal Agreement (WA). MPs on all sides were ready to vote down down May's WA for the fourth time, which resulted in her announcing her resignation. On May 24, she said she was stepping down as the Prime Minister and she stepped down as Tory leader on June … [Read more...] about Brexit latest news: Why is there a delay and what happens next?
Downing Street hit out at Angela Merkel for scuppering an eleventh-hour Brexit deal. Negotiations collapsed as the German leader insisted a deal was “overwhelmingly unlikely” without Northern Ireland “forever” staying in the EU’s customs union. Her torpedoing of any new agreement sparked a war of words between No10 and Europe. Boris Johnson had a 30-minute phone call with Mrs Merkel at 8am on Tuesday, during which he asked for her help to “get this boat off the rocks”. Aides later broke protocol to brief details of the call, accusing Mrs Merkel of making a deal “essentially impossible”. EU Council president Donald Tusk reacted by accusing Boris of playing “a stupid blame game”. The tit-for-tat came as:OFFICIALS said Mr Johnson felt Irish Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Mrs Merkel had let him down, having given the PM hope in meetings last month at a UN summit in New York; BORIS faced a growing Cabinet revolt on his … [Read more...] about Angela Merkel derails Boris Johnson’s eleventh-hour Brexit plan sparking war of words between No10 and Brussels
A PRO BREXIT group has issued a grovelling apology after posting a “racist” tweet of Angela Merkel. Leave.UK tweeted an image of the German Chancellor with the caption: “We didn’t win two world wars to be pushed around by a Kraut.” They put the post up after Mrs Merkel all but killed off hopes for a Brexit deal in an explosive call with Boris Johnson on Tuesday. But the meme sparked outcry and was branded racist by Change UK MP Chris Leslie in the House of Commons.Nigel Farage’s right-hand man Arron Banks, who runs the group, admitted the tweet went “too far” and it was deleted.
