Liverpool have apologised after the club’s supporters damaged Manchester City’s team bus by throwing bottles and fireworks as the visitors arrived at Anfield for Wednesday’s first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. A number of red flares were also let off, making visibility difficult as supporters lined the streets outside the stadium and the City bus appeared to be damaged as it entered the stadium. It was reported that both the drivers’ door and the front window had been smashed, and that City had ordered a replacement to be sent to Anfield to take the team home as the damaged bus was not considered roadworthy. Officials from Uefa took photographs of the damaged bus after the players and Manchester City staff had disembarked.
