But they have to play where they are not the best, and they have to win there. With us it is the same, though the referee made a comment to me that he was surprised the pitch was so hard. Manchester City have been named the bookmakers' favourites to win the Champions League after Pep Guardiola's side were handed a favourable draw. The 2016-17 semi-finalists are priced at 9/2 on Betfair to win their first-ever Champions League title after they were drawn against Shakhtar Donetsk, Lyon and newcomers Hoffenheim in Group F. City are closely followed by Cristiano Ronaldo's new team and 2017 runners-up Juventus (13/2), five-time winners Barcelona (13/2), PSG (7/1) and European heavyweights Bayern Munich (8/1). Divock Origi is being tracked by Borussia Dortmund as Liverpool look to ship out more players before end of the Euro transfer window. But Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is standing firm on his £27million valuation for the player, report the Liverpool Echo. The Belgium international, who has two years to run on his contract, is expected to leave Anfield before August 31. The ECHO understands that the Bundesliga outfit have registered their interest but have yet to table an offer for the 23-year-old frontman. Klopp is prepared to sanction the sale of Origi to his former club but the Reds are adamant his exit will be on their terms and they are prepared to hold out for what they want. Klopp spoke last week about European clubs trying to "dump prices to get good football players" after the Premier League transfer window shut. "That will not happen. We are not in a financial need situation where we have to do that," Klopp warned. The ECHO understands that Wolves were prepared to pay … [Read more...] about Liverpool tracked by Champions League club
Celtic's quest to reach the Champions League group stage was never going to be easy after UEFA's meddling to benefit the big leagues and the next round certainly offers some potential pitfalls. Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be concentrating on the job at hand as they must defeat old foes Rosenborg in the second qualifying tie, before they can think about what lies in wait. The arduous quest to reach the bright lights of European football's premier competition has never been a cakewalk but the danger level has been upped after the governing body increased the amount of teams from the top leagues who qualify automatically for the group stage. The teams the Premiership champions can face must also navigate their own ties, outwith AEK Athens who enter at the third round stage but are unseeded. Celtic … [Read more...] about Who Celtic could face in Champions League qualifying third round?
