Gareth Bale wants to "play all his career" at Real Madrid despite the return of Zinedine Zidane as manager, says his agent Jonathan Barnett. The Frenchman's appointment is "bad news" for the Welsh forward because Zidane "does not want to work with Bale", according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague. The 29-year-old has been booed by home supporters this season.Barnett said Bale is "very happy at the moment" but "we will see what goes on".Asked if Bale will stay at Real, Barnett replied: "Yes, why not? Zinedine Zidane's return to Real Madrid could pave the way for Gareth Bale to go back to the Premier League. The Frenchman was not on the best of terms with Bale when he left the Bernabeu following last season's Champions League triumph, despite the Welshman's unbelievable goal in the final against Liverpool . And now it has emerged that Zidane had requested for Bale to be sold before his departure, according to Spanish publication AS. Daniel Levy has reportedly floated the possibility of taking Bale back to Tottenham on a season-long loan, with Real continuing to pay the bulk of the forward's wages. But Los Blancos are not entertaining the idea, and an exit for Bale could be made difficult by his wages. He earns over £10million a year, and it is seen to be unlikely that he will trouser that amount at any other club, with the 29-year-old reluctant to take a pay cut. Spurs expect Real to make a summer move for Christian Eriksen, and could try and include Bale in the deal as a … [Read more...] about Why Zidane’s Real Madrid return may see Bale go back to Premier League
Jose Mourinho believes Zinedine Zidane's return to Real Madrid is "perfect". The Frenchman is back in the Beranbeu dugout as the Los Blancos hierarchy turned to him after deciding to relieve Santiago Solari of his duties in the Spanish capital. Mourinho was rumoured to be in pole position to return to Madrid himself after one of the most disastrous weeks in the club's history. Solari oversaw back-to-back Clasico defeats against Barcelona which saw them crash out of the Copa del Rey and fall 12 points behind in the title race. A nightmare eight days was compounded by a 4-1 humiliation at the hands of Ajax in the Bernabeu which saw their bid for a fifth Champions League in six years ended. Reports had suggested Mourinho, who has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester United in December, was in line for a sensational return, but Real instead turned to Zidane. And when asked what he made of the decision, Mourinho repeatedly said "perfect". Zidane has already made his first … [Read more...] about Jose Mourinho’s one-word response to Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid return
On Monday, Real Madrid appointed Zinedine Zidane as their third coach of the season after Santiago Solari was sacked. Coaching dismissals are a regular occurrence at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, but it's in stark contrast to how Barcelona operate. Louis Van Gaal was the last coach to be sacked by the Catalan club in January 2003 when Joan Gaspart was still president. Since then, every coach has seen their contract through under the presidencies of Joan Laporta, Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu. Frank Rijkaard spent five seasons in the dugout at the Camp Nou, with president Laporta always giving him his full backing, even when he struggled in his first year in charge. The Dutchman went on to lift the club's second Champions League title and Laporta wanted to renew his contract before he left in 2008. Pep Guardiola spent as long as he wanted as coach of Barcelona until he stepped down at the end of his fourth season in charge having not won either LaLiga or the Champions League. … [Read more...] about Real Madrid 10-0 Barcelona: Why don’t Barcelona sack their coaches?
Real Madrid have clinched a deal to sign the Brazilian defender Eder Militao, 21, from Portuguese champions FC Porto from next season, the two clubs announced on Thursday. The centre-back is the Spanish giants' first signing since Zinedine Zidane returned to the club as coach for a second spell this week. Real said Militao would join on a four-year deal until 2025. Meanwhile, in a statement to the Portuguese stock exchange, Porto said Real had agreed to pay the player's release clause of 50 million euros ($56.5m), "effective at the end of the season". That will mean a significant profit for Porto on a player they signed last year from Sao Paulo in his homeland. Militao, who can also play at right-back and has been capped once by Brazil, reinforces a Real defence that has often been diminished by injuries this season. He is likely to be followed by several more new arrivals before the start of next season as Real prepare to rebuild following what has been a disappointing campaign. … [Read more...] about Real Madrid secure 50 million-euro Militao from Porto
