SQUEEZING the pipette of cannabis oil under her tongue, Ceri Jones closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Please save my life,” she thought. In May this year, Ceri had bought a marijuana tincture from an online supplier in Germany in a bid to out-smart advanced, aggressive pancreatic cancer. Is cannabis oil illegal in the UK, is it different from concentrated CBD oil and can it be used to treat cancer? “Until medicinal cannabis is freely and legally available, I know I’m breaking the law,” admits Ceri, 38, from Surrey. “But when I was told I was out of treatment options, I decided I’d try anything so my children don’t grow up without me.” Last month, medicinal marijuana hit the headlines again with the story of 12-year-old Billy Caldwell from County Tyrone, who suffers from drug-resistant epilepsy and experiences up to 100 seizures a day. When his mother Charlotte, 50, returned to the UK after flying to Canada to legally obtain … [Read more...] about From tackling cancer to beating anxiety, medicinal cannabis helps thousands of people around the world — yet it’s illegal in the UK

The marijuana movement in North America is seemingly unstoppable at the moment. Mexico legalized medical cannabis in June 2017, 29 U.S. states have legalized marijuana in some capacity since 1996, and Canada stands on the verge of becoming the first developed country in the world to legalize adult-use cannabis by this summer. According to cannabis research firm ArcView in partnership with BDS Analytics, North American legal weed sales grew by 33%, to $9.7 billion in 2017 and they're expected to hit approximately $47 billion annually by 2027. Growth like this is tough for investors to ignore, which is a big reason why marijuana stocks have ascended to the heavens. Image source: Getty Images. Losing your retirement nest egg after middle age takes a major toll on your health and could increase your chances of dying prematurely by as much as 50 per cent, a study has found. Researchers investigating the long-term health impacts on people who lost the bulk of their life-savings unexpectedly, dubbed “wealth shock”, found it had a heavy mental health toll. Worryingly, the US team found this sort of catastrophic financial loss, classed as losing more than 75 per cent of their assets in a two-year period, was far from rare with one in four people affected over the 20 year study. While this was more common in times of economic upheaval – such as the global recession in 2007 – losses were prevalent at all wealth levels and could occur at any time, the authors said. NHS Providers - a membership organisation and trade association for NHS trusts - warned that the number of people waiting longer than this for A&E could reach 3.6 million next year, in a report into what the health service may look like in 2018/19.
