SQUEEZING the pipette of cannabis oil under her tongue, Ceri Jones closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Please save my life,” she thought. In May this year, Ceri had bought a marijuana tincture from an online supplier in Germany in a bid to out-smart advanced, aggressive pancreatic cancer. Is cannabis oil illegal in the UK, is it different from concentrated CBD oil and can it be used to treat cancer? “Until medicinal cannabis is freely and legally available, I know I’m breaking the law,” admits Ceri, 38, from Surrey. “But when I was told I was out of treatment options, I decided I’d try anything so my children don’t grow up without me.” Last month, medicinal marijuana hit the headlines again with the story of 12-year-old Billy Caldwell from County Tyrone, who suffers from drug-resistant epilepsy and experiences up to 100 seizures a day. When his mother Charlotte, 50, returned to the UK after flying to Canada to legally obtain … [Read more...] about From tackling cancer to beating anxiety, medicinal cannabis helps thousands of people around the world — yet it’s illegal in the UK

The marijuana movement in North America is seemingly unstoppable at the moment. Mexico legalized medical cannabis in June 2017, 29 U.S. states have legalized marijuana in some capacity since 1996, and Canada stands on the verge of becoming the first developed country in the world to legalize adult-use cannabis by this summer. That's what I'd call a great recipe for rapid sales growth within the marijuana industry. According to cannabis research firm ArcView in partnership with BDS Analytics, North American legal weed sales grew by 33%, to $9.7 billion in 2017 and they're expected to hit approximately $47 billion annually by 2027. Growth like this is tough for investors to ignore, which is a big reason why marijuana stocks have ascended to the heavens. Image source: Getty Images. The U.S. cannabis industry is rife with risk But the cannabis industry isn't without its own unique set of risks. This has truly been a year of big changes in the cannabis industry. Earlier this year, marijuana investment firm Cronos Group became the first pot stock to uplist from the over-the-counter exchange to the Nasdaq. Not only could this move wind up paving the way for other large marijuana stocks to uplist to reputable exchanges, but it also validates just how far the legal cannabis industry has come in such a short amount of time. Image source: Getty Images. We also witnessed history in January, when Vermont became the very first state to legalize the use of recreational marijuana entirely through the legislative process -- i.e., without residents voting on an amendment or initiative. Though the sale of adult-use weed still isn't allowed in Vermont, its effective decriminalization pushed the number of states where adult-use weed is legal to nine. Overall, 29 states have Ok'd broad-sweeping medical cannabis laws. In June, Canada is looking to become the first developed country in the … [Read more...] about A Major Marijuana Milestone Is Less Than 2 Months Away
People hoping to be parents in the UK are being sold “false hope” by foreign IVF clinics claiming success rates as high as 98 per cent based on highly selective data, the national fertility regulator has warned. These clinics are exhibiting at UK events for couples considering fertility treatment and making claims that no UK IVF provider would be allowed to make, said Sally Cheshire, chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA). The regulator said it was powerless to regulate overseas clinics, while fertility experts said some clinics are capitalising on the hopes of vulnerable people and could be dangerous if they led with these inflated claims of success. HFEA data on UK clinics in 2016 shows that for women under the age of 35 – who have the best odds of getting pregnant through IVF – on average each round of embryo implantation has just a 32.5 per cent chance. But one Cyprus clinic, part of the international fertility group Bahceci, … [Read more...] about Vulnerable would-be parents being sold ‘false hope’ by overseas IVF clinics, regulator warns
