Four players were given their marching orders as Newlands edged out promoted Cask 3-2 in Division One on the opening day of the new Scarborough Sunday League season. Dan Sheader's promoted Cask, formerly Hush FC, took the lead with a stunning Callum Myers free-kick which arrowed into the top corner.Newlands battled back, McCauley Lacey levelling matters up for Joe Hakings' troops.Shem Atkinson became the first Cask player to be sent off just before the break, but that didn't seem to affect the promoted side too much as they moved into a 2-1 lead after the interval, Myers again with their goal.Ryan Link was then given his marching orders to send Cask down to nine men and Newlands soon equalised through a Drew McCoubrey strike. With the clock ticking down, Ryan Collings handled in the area and became Cask's third player to be sent off.Jack Hakings made no mistake from the penalty spot, and to compound the promoted side's misery, Myers was also sent off in the aftermath of the … [Read more...] about SUNDAY LEAGUE / Four see red as Newlands edge Cask clash

The idea of a bucket list has never really interested me. I would rather draw up a list of things I definitely don't want to do before I die. I have no intention of visiting an Italian tower which is a bit wonky. I can happily live without jumping off a bridge with elastic tied to my legs. The idea of swimming with dolphins does nothing for me and as for seeing the Grand Canyon...it's just a big hole in the ground isn't it? However, my colleagues have twisted my arm and asked me to compile a local list of places to go and things to do in Hinckley before we die. While we might not have a big hole in the ground to look at or a tall bridge to jump off, there are plenty of places right under our noses that are worthy of a visit. And the area is packed full of things to do, if you know where to look. But what do you think? Let us know what would be on your list of things to see and do in the area...We would love to compile a list of your suggestions. Email [email protected] or … [Read more...] about Hinckley bucket list

But the recent food and drink expansion of the city also means a day or night out on the sauce can be a costly affair. It's not unusual to find yourself paying upwards of a fiver for a pint - but great value beer is still out there. You just have to look a bit harder to find it. It might even take you to some pubs you've never seen before, or get you around the towns and suburbs of Greater Manchester rather than sticking to the city centre. We asked around in a bid to find some of the cheapest pints in Greater Manchester - if you know of any, let us know the comments below or tweet us @Citylifemanc . Sinclairs Oyster Bar, city centre Probably the most suggested pub on the cheap pint trail, Sinclairs is something of a Manchester institution, and not just for the good value beer. The Samuel Smiths pub was famously moved from Shambles Square after the IRA bomb in 1996, to its current spot … [Read more...] about Where are the cheapest pints in Manchester?
