Strong speculation that Donald Trump may be on the verge of confirming his intentions to run again in 2024 is raising questions as to whether it is still too early for him to declare. The former president is reported to be desperate to divert attention away from the damning January 6 hearing by announcing he will be vying for the White House for the third time. The speculation increased in the wake of the damning June 28 testimony of former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson, who said Trump was aware that his supporters were armed on January 6 but he still ordered them to the Capitol, and that he tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential SUV as he was so desperate to join the riot as it was unfolding. Trump may also be wanting to take the increasing limelight from Ron DeSantis with an announcement, as polls, bookmakers and donors increasingly believe the Florida governor is the person who should lead the GOP into 2024. While reports Trump wants to be president … [Read more...] about Donald Trump might announce 2024 run much earlier than he would like

Georgia grand jury investigating Trump wants testimony from Giuliani, Graham and others
Washington — The Georgia prosecutor examining former President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the state's 2020 election results is seeking to compel several Trump allies, including Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Lindsey Graham, to testify before the special grand jury investigating the scheme. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis petitioned the judge overseeing the panel to issue certificates determining Giuliani, Graham and others are material witnesses to the investigation, the first step in asking courts in other states to compel the witnesses to appear in Georgia. Conservative attorney John Eastman and pundit Jacki Deason were also identified as material witnesses, as well as Trump attorneys Cleta Mitchell, Kenneth Chesebro and Jenna Ellis. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the move to compel the witnesses' testimony. The certificates state the witnesses would be required to testify as early as July 12. An attorney for Giuliani said the former New York … [Read more...] about Georgia grand jury investigating Trump wants testimony from Giuliani, Graham and others
UN court sides with Iran and orders US to lift some sanctions
The United States has been ordered to lift some sanctions against Iran, in a symbolic victory for Tehran. The United Nations’ top court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), says anything that has an impact on humanitarian aid and civil aviation safety must be suspended. President Donald Trump has moved to restore tough US sanctions after withdrawing from Tehran’s nuclear accord with world powers. Iran brought its case to The Hague based on the Treaty of Amity, a UN document dating from 1955, well before the 1979 Islamic revolution. What did the court say? In their ruling , the 15-strong panel of judges unanimously dismissed US objections that the court had no jurisdiction. Washington had argued that Iran’s action was a misuse of the court. The ruling also rejected US assurances, given in August, that sanctions would not affect humanitarian conditions. This was “not adequate to address fully the humanitarian and safety concerns raised” by Iran, the court … [Read more...] about UN court sides with Iran and orders US to lift some sanctions

For the Big Ten, the Money Was Just Too Tempting
The coronavirus pandemic is still ravaging America, just as it was in August, when the college presidents and chancellors of the Big Ten Conference decided against playing football in the fall. The only thing that’s changed is that the same leaders now feel far more comfortable with the risks. The Big Ten’s announcement this week that college football will begin the weekend of October 23 isn’t cause for celebration, but rather an indication of how easily money shifts priorities. Without football, the Big Ten and its member schools were in jeopardy of losing up to $1 billion in revenue . Last month, the Big Ten was willing to set a brave example. It decided that its members, most of which are large public universities in the Midwest, would play no football this fall. Meanwhile, … [Read more...] about For the Big Ten, the Money Was Just Too Tempting
Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit
A delegation of Cabinet ministers are set to meet Boris Johnson at No10 as he heads out of a car crash Liaison Committee meeting this evening to tell him to go. 'Men in grey suits' Welsh Secretary Simon Hart, grim-faced Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis are set to tell the Prime Minister he had lost the confidence of his party. The revelation the PM knew about claims against “grope” accused MP Chris Pincher, then promoted him, then “forgot” he’d been told, was the last straw for many MPs. Chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid led the way yesterday for a wave of Tory resignations . The doomed PM has seen dozens of his own MPs quit in 24 hours, including ministers, parliamentary private secretaries and trade envoys. Meanwhile, Tories have discussed changing the rules of no confidence votes - to force the PM out as soon as next week if he opts to squat in No10. In a day of feverish drama at Westminster the … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit
