Spain tourist hotspots see more Brits booking this week than ‘in the history of tourism’ due to pent up demand

· February 26, 2021 ·

BRITS are booking more holidays to Spain in the past week than in the "history of tourism" according to hoteliers. Toni Mayor, President of the Valencian Hotel Association (HOSBEC) said that the soaring demand was following pent up demand from UK holidaymakers who have missed out on previous holidays due to the pandemic. While he didn't have exact figures, he told local media that the reservations were being made on a "massive scale" to areas in Valencia which includes Benidorm. This is despite the UK government yet to give an official date for when foreign holidays can resume. The announcement, due to be on April 12, is expected to be for the summer with May 17 the earliest possible date, although is more likely to be June 21. Mr Mayor said, due to bookings already rolling in: "We might open on May 1 instead of May 17." UK campsites devastated as thousands to remain closed until May 17 due to shared toilet rules

· February 26, 2021 ·

UK campsites with shared facilities have been left off the list when it comes to reopening, after the government announced some holidays can resume from April 12. However, this is only for self-catered accommodation , where there are no shared facilities - meaning campsites that have shower and toilet blocks are not included. Instead, they will reopen from May 17 , along with hotels, meaning many are missing out on the end of the Easter holidays. Martin Smith, founder of Campsites.co.uk , said they have seen a booking boom of 300 per cent following the announcement, but that they were being unfairly penalised due to the shared toilet and shower facilities. He warned: "Under the current roadmap, pubs and shops can open their toilet facilities for customers from April 12, but campsites must keep theirs closed until May 17. "This matters, because it stops thousands of campsites opening for the early Bank Holiday weekend, depriving independent sites the chance to claw … [Read more...] about UK campsites devastated as thousands to remain closed until May 17 due to shared toilet rules

GREECE was one of the most popular foreign holiday destinations for Brits last year, thanks to the way that it managed Covid - and this year isn't looking any different. While it won't be until April 12 that Brits discover if they'll be going on holiday abroad this summer, Greece is looking like a good prospect for a break, as ministers hold talks with the getaway hotspot. The Prime Minister announced this week that trips abroad will definitely be no earlier than May 17. Skyscanner saw bookings surge after lockdown roadmap news with Spain top of list

· February 23, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson gave holidaymakers a glimmer of hope as he announced the government's plans for easing England out of lockdown. Currently England has a ban on international travel for leisure, meaning it's illegal to go on holiday abroad. However, the policy on foreign travel is set to be reviewed in April as part of the lockdown roadmap, and could resume from May 17 at the earliest. Unsurprisingly, travel firms noted a surge in bookings for flights and holidays - and Skyscanner was no exception. The flight bookings website said it saw a 55% increase of traffic to its website immediately after Boris unveiled the roadmap in the House of Commons on Monday, with flight bookings from UK travellers increasing by 69% compared to the previous day. As for the destination top of the list? It was Spain where holidaymakers were keen to nab deals, with the country having the highest volume of bookings on Monday (February 22). It's not surprising considering Spain has been a firm … [Read more...] about Skyscanner saw bookings surge after lockdown roadmap news with Spain top of list

Benidorm to restart beach ‘squares’ which tourists have to reserve – despite hour long queues last summer

· February 26, 2021 ·

BENIDORM is relaunching their beach "squares" which tourists have to reserve, despite them causing long queues last summer. The scheme was originally launched to allow social distancing at the popular beaches, and is restarting from March 1. Mayor Toni Pérez explained it was an "an extension to the organisation and operation model that we implemented in June 2020 under the ‘Benidorm Beach Safety’ project." While the initial plans will only be in place from March 1 to April 30, due to the busy period with two local holidays, it is likely to be introduced again during the peak season when Brits descend to the beaches. The proposal includes "the subdivision of the sandy areas, with spaces of 16 square metres (4×4 metres) to ensure physical distancing and personal observance of these measures," which is the same as last year's initiative . Sunloungers and umbrella rental services will also be suspended. Mr Pérez said: "The implementation of all these services is one … [Read more...] about Benidorm to restart beach ‘squares’ which tourists have to reserve – despite hour long queues last summer
