Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer said Sunday Russia must take further action in the investigation into the murder of a Georgian man on August 23. Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a 40-year-old Georgian activist, was shot at point-blank range by a cyclist in a small park in the Berlin neighborhood of Moabit. The victim, an ethnic Chechen, is said to have fought against Russia in the Second Chechen War and is believed to have had ties to Georgian military intelligence. The German Foreign Ministry suspects Russian intelligence agencies played a role in the assassination of Khangoshvili. "The evidence weighs heavily," Kramp-Karrenbauer, who serves as both defense minister and leader of Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservative Christian Democrats, told the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag. Presenters slam BBC after Naga Munchetty reprimanded for calling out Trump racism
The BBC has sparked fury over its upholding of a complaint against Breakfast host Naga Munchetty for slamming a racist outburst by Donald Trump. She was found to have breached strict rules on the show in July, by saying Donald Trump’s tweet that four US politicians should “go back” to where they came from was “embedded in racism”. Stars have lined up to voice their anger at the ruling by the BBC’s Editorial Complaints Unit. Separately, BBC correspondent Carrie Gracie tweeted that the ruling caused unease among journalists “for whom ‘go back’ = racist”. Fellow … [Read more...] about Presenters slam BBC after Naga Munchetty reprimanded for calling out Trump racism
Why I turned down Love Island – I don’t want to be the token ‘fat’ one
THIS week I got the call of a lifetime - I got the call for Love Island. Did I want to trade my boyfriend of eight years for a sunshine holiday, fame and the chance to make millions? On Thursday a producer at ITV rang, wanting to know if I was a) single and b) interested in appearing in the next series of Love Island. First we had Camilla, who worked in landmine disposal, then it was Dr Alex, the NHS doctor and this year we had “scientist” Yewande. I think what the producer was trying to tell me was that they wanted someone not quite as fit as the rest of them, but a bit smarter. No offence. It was a flattering call, I won’t lie to you (I’ve subsequently been congratulated by both of my parents, … [Read more...] about Why I turned down Love Island – I don’t want to be the token ‘fat’ one
