With less than a week to Election Day, the Black Lives Matter movement, which dominated the political discourse over the summer, has continued to lose support since protesters first began demanding racial justice. A national poll from Civiqs shows that net support for Black Lives Matter has fallen 14 percent since demonstrators flooded streets across the nation following the death of George Floyd over Memorial Day weekend. As of Monday, net support among registered voters for the movement is at 10 percent, compared to the 24 percent observed on June 5, less than two weeks after Floyd's death. The poll found that with eight days to the election, 48 percent of registered voters supported Black Lives Matter, 38 percent opposed the movement, and another 13 percent neither supported or opposed or were unsure. Support is greatest among younger voters with the majority of those aged 18 to 49 in favor of the movement. Women were also 10 percent more likely than men to support Black … [Read more...] about With Days to the Election, Net Support for BLM Movement Has Dropped 14%

Taylor Rene Parker was found guilty of murdering Reagan Michelle Simmons-Hancock and kidnapping her daughter. Parker cut Simmons-Hancock from “hip to hip" after beating her in the head five times in October 2020. Simmons-Hancock is said to have still been alive after having her baby cut from her womb. “It was no quick death,” said assistant district attorney Lauren Richards. "She just kept cutting her. I guess Reagan would not die fast enough for Taylor to get out of there and get on with her plans.” “The pain Reagan must have felt when Taylor started cutting her abdomen, hip to hip… indescribable," she added. After leaving Simmons-Hancock alone to die in front of her three-year-old daughter, Parker drove alone with the baby on her lap. The 29-year-old mother of two stuffed the placenta in her own trousers to fake giving birth. Relatives of a man shot dead by police have called for an urgent decision on criminal charges in the case, saying they "need answers". Chris Kaba's family was speaking outside a coroner's court after a brief initial hearing, a month after his death in Streatham Hill, south London. Mr Kaba had been driving his Audi while being followed by an unmarked police car with no lights or sirens minutes before he was shot, the Inner South London Coroner's Court was told. He was then blocked by a marked police vehicle, with "contact" between the two cars, before a marksman fired a single shot through the windscreen, hitting him in the head. Mr Kaba was unarmed. His cousin Jefferson Bosela said outside court: "We need answers. Not just this family, but the whole of London - the whole of the country - needs to know how something like this could occur. "How can a young man, sitting in a car, unarmed, be shot in the head by police in London in 2022? "This should never have … [Read more...] about Chris Kaba’s relatives ‘need answers’ as inquest opens into his death

In power for just 28 days - and for 10 of them politics was paused following the death of the Queen - it has been the worst possible start for Liz Truss. A (mini) budget unveiling £45bn of tax cuts without a fiscal framework, precipitating a £65bn emergency bond buying programme by the Bank of England to protect pension funds. The pound tanked, 1,000 mortgage deals were withdrawn from the markets in anticipation of an interest rates spike. And then a prime minister who was not the lady for turning, has announced a huge policy U-turn. So the question for the new prime minister was really a question of leadership - and judgement. How bad is it and, crucially, can Liz Truss win back control? She never had emphatic backing from the parliamentary party anyway - Rishi Sunak was initially their first choice. A full century since seizing the reigns of the Russian state from the grip of a weak cabinet and an ousted royal dynasty, Vladimir Lenin can still draw a crowd in Russia's capital, Moscow. But the citizens of Russia no longer gather in Red Square to hear the leader of the 1917 revolution give a rousing speech, rather they queue for a glimpse of Lenin's inanimate body, embalmed and laid to rest in his public tomb. Whether or not Lenin should remain on show in front of the Kremlin is a debate that began even while he was alive. As his health declined, Lenin's acolytes discussed whether his body should be displayed in a masoleum. His contemporaries Leon Trotsky, Lev Kamenev and Nikolai Bukharin famously opposed the idea of his embalming, while his late wife, Nadezhda Krupskaya, wrote for the Pravda newspaper in the year of his death: "Do not build for him monuments, castles in his name, (hold) opulent receptions in his memories etc. To all of this he assigned such little … [Read more...] about Can Russia Ever Bury Its Past With Lenin in Red Square?
