Blurred county lines and a pretty confusing century of expansion and renaming have left some residents in Romford unsure where their town is. Some put it firmly in east London while others say it’s still part of Essex, just as it once indisputably was a very long time ago. Let’s settle this Originally, Romford was part of an ancient parish called the Becontree Hundred of Essex, an area including Harold Wood and Collier Row. This is the first picture of a 60-year-old cyclist who was killed in south-east London following a crash with a lorry. Brian Barnett, from Abbey Wood, has been named by police as the victim of the fatal collision in Bronze Age Way, Erith. Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at 4.35am on Monday. Paramedics fought to save Mr Barnett’s life but he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 5.30pm. The lorry did not stop at the scene but was later found in London Road, Swanley, police said. The driver was arrested and later released under investigation. Police are appealing for information on the crash and have asked for any witnesses to come forward.
