Motown legend Lamont Dozier, behind hits including Baby Love, dies aged 81
Motown legend Lamont Dozier has died, aged 81. The song-writing genius’ death, behind classics such as Baby Love and Two Hearts, was confirmed by his son Lamont Dozier Jr Instagram. He wrote alongside a picture of the pair: ‘Rest in Heavenly Peace, Dad!!!’ A cause of death has not yet been confirmed. Producer Brandon Williams led tributes to Dozier, writing: ‘Another man that sat down and taught me a lot about music is gone. ‘The great Lamont Dozier. I’ll never forget meeting and working with him along with the Holland Brothers in 2006. ‘Thank you for all you did for me and for the world at large. You definitely made this place better.’ Dozier was one third of the iconic song-writing trio Holland-Dozier-Holland, who are known for co-writing huge hits for Motown acts such as The Four Tops, The Supremes and The Isley Brothers. Legendary Motown songwriter and producer Lamont Dozier has died at the age of 81. The news was confirmed by his son, Lamont Dozier Jr, on Instagram. He was part of the songwriting trio, Holland, Dozier, Holland, who shared several number one records and won Grammy Awards. Dozier senior wrote songs for The Supremes, The Four Tops and The Isley Brothers, as well as Marvin Gaye and Martha and the Vandellas. Hits include Baby Love, Nowhere to Run, How Sweet It Is (to Be Love By You) and You Can't Hurry Love.
