FEATHERSTONE Working Men’s Club, near Pontefract, has never seen anything like it. On a sunny May morning, a mass of Brexit Party supporters, armed with placards and warmed up by a tub-thumping speech from Ann Widdecombe, a former Tory minister, chant “Nig-el, Nig-el” as their hero clambers on to the platform. This month’s European election, Nigel Farage shouts, is about democracy and the betrayal of voters. Mentions of Theresa May, the Conservative prime minister, or Yvette Cooper, the local Labour MP, are greeted with howls of “Traitor!”. Outside, a kind soul from the Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) distributes leaflets pointing out that his party also backs Brexit. Mr Farage’s new party thrives on protest. Its supporters enjoy nothing more than being told their vote to leave the European Union in June 2016 has been betrayed by the establishment, the London elite, a useless prime minister, the civil service, treacherous … [Read more...] about Britain’s bizarre, unwanted European election

NTB Scanpix/Vidar Ruud via REUTERS/File Photo BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union should allow Britain as much time as needed to reconsider Brexit, Poland’s Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz told Reuters. Three years after the referendum vote to quit the European Union, Britain is still struggling to agree on how and whether to leave the EU, which has recently agreed to put off the departure day to October to give London time to regroup. Poland’s ruling eurosceptics have long argued the EU needs to be more accommodating to London, disagreeing with a more hawkish camp led by France, whose President Emmanuel Macron had sought to attach strict conditions to any delay. Czaputowicz said Britain should be given more leeway ahead. “From Poland’s point of view, it would be good if … [Read more...] about EU should give Britain more time to reconsider Brexit

WARSAW, Poland — Brexit uncertainty isn't stopping the U.K.'s National Health Service from hiring doctors from beyond its borders — including from the EU. Enter firms like Paragona, which calls itself "the leading global provider of international solutions to staff shortage problems for the healthcare sector." The Polish company won a contract with the NHS a few weeks ago as part of the health service's "international GP recruitment program," and is training its first batch of 100 EU doctors to practice in England. The general practitioners, who come from Spain, Lithuania, Greece and Poland, are enrolled at a campus in the small town of Piaseczno, 20 kilometers south of Warsaw. "We provide EU GPs with a 12-20 week residential course in Poland and when in the U.K., the doctors undergo additional training under the supervision of a mentor,” Paragona Board Chairman Adam Ringer said. The training is intensive, with five-day, 40 hour-per-week … [Read more...] about Training Britain’s doctors — in Poland
