Showing that it’ll take more than a global pandemic to put a dent in the indefatigable human spirit – a brewery and gin distillery have set up a drive-thru for gin and beer. Customers on coronavirus lockdown can stock up on the essentials at the brewery in Salford, Greater Manchester. The scheme from Seven Brothers Brewery and its sibling brand Four Sisters Distillery minimises social contact for its customers as the spread of COVID-19 continues, reports the Manchester Evening News . Seven Brothers Brewery described it as "the best thing that's ever existed" as they shared the brilliant news on their Facebook page. The post read: "We know how hard and confusing things are at the moment and social distancing is a must so if you live local and want to collect your online orders without having to come inside and mingle then just tick the “drive thru” box in your cart and head down between 10-5 weekdays and 10-2 Saturdays the day after you place your order (or any day after … [Read more...] about Coronavirus fightback continues with beer and gin drive-thru set up for drinkers

From the archive: David McCullough on the life of patriot John Adams
Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough died August 8, 2022 at age 89 . In this "Sunday Morning" interview, originally broadcast on July 1, 2001, he discusses his biography of an overlooked Founding Father: In the cool grandeur of the National Archives in Washington, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are enshrined, historian David McCullough is anything but cool about how history has treated one of the major forces behind those two documents: John Adams. "There's no statue to him in Washington," McCullough told correspondent Rita Braver. "There's no face on Mount Rushmore. There's no monument. There's no picture of John Adams on our money. There isn't a postage stamp in circulation with John Adams' picture on it. This is a disgrace!" But now McCullough, one of the most influential historians of our time, has become an Adams advocate, using his skills and his celebrity to introduce Americans to this forgotten patriot, with a massive new … [Read more...] about From the archive: David McCullough on the life of patriot John Adams

Rio Ferdinand rates Manchester United’s move for Adrien Rabiot and reveals David Luiz’s high praise
Rio Ferdinand feels Adrien Rabiot has the potential to be a shrewd signing for Manchester United despite being a backup option, while he has also revealed David Luiz ’s very high opinion of the Frenchman. United appear to have finally accepted defeat in their pursuit of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong and are now looking to secure a £15million deal for Juventus midfielder Rabiot instead. While Ferdinand is not particularly happy to see United miss out on their number one target, he is a fan of the Frenchman – and has been ever since David Luiz described him as one of the most talented players at PSG. Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel on Tuesday, Ferdinand said of the move: ‘There’s no doubting that Rabiot is a seriously talented footballer. Great left foot, brilliant at carrying the ball and dribbling and taking the ball under pressure, can pass – very well over short distances especially. ‘The position Man United probably see playing him is one of the … [Read more...] about Rio Ferdinand rates Manchester United’s move for Adrien Rabiot and reveals David Luiz’s high praise
