Users claim Instagram is fine with nude Tommy Lee pic, but censors female bodies
Tommy Lee has inadvertently started a debate about Instagram 's censorship rules after he posted a picture of his penis on his account—which remained on the site for more than four hours. In the early hours of Thursday morning, Mötley Crüe drummer Lee posted a full body shot of himself which included his genitals, and the rocker quickly became a trending topic across social media. While many expressed shock at the picture, others were quick to point out that female bodies are often removed by Instagram, with many sharing their own experiences of censorship. At the time of writing, Lee's Instagram post was still live, alongside the caption "Ooooopppsss." Lee also posted two other pictures around the same time that alluded to phallic themes. Thousands of people, including Lee's wife Brittany Furlan, commented on the image. "OH MY GOD," Lee's wife wrote, while internet celebrity Daniel Mac joked: "How long will this stay up." While the image itself became a talking point, Lee's … [Read more...] about Users claim Instagram is fine with nude Tommy Lee pic, but censors female bodies
Experts discuss how a Banana a day can keep cancer away
Bananas may offer more than just a good source of fiber, Vitamin C, potassium and other vitamins and minerals . A new study by researchers at the University of Leeds and Newcastle University in the U.K., published on July 26 in the peer-reviewed journal Cancer Prevention Research , suggests that a starch found in green bananas ( as opposed to ripe ones ) and some other foods may potentially help reduce the risk of some cancers . A 20-year trial conducted among 900 patients with Lynch Syndrome (LS), the most common cause of hereditary colorectal (colon) cancer , found that a daily dose of 30 grams of resistant starch for up to four years produced a " protective effect against non–colorectal cancer LS cancers." However, more research is needed to know whether resistant starch can offer the same benefits among the general population, experts told Newsweek. Patients with LS are more likely to get colon cancer and other cancers, and at a younger age (before 50) … [Read more...] about Experts discuss how a Banana a day can keep cancer away

The transport legacy of outgoing mayor Boris Johnson
Tom Edwards @BBCTomEdwards on Twitter Published 6 May 2016 comments Comments Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Is it really eight years ago that Boris Johnson first became London's mayor? My time covering transport at BBC London has nearly mirrored his in office - and so as he departs I thought it timely to put down some non-definitive thoughts. Recently I asked Mr Johnson if he enjoyed dealing with the transport - his answer was quick: "Of course, it's the best bit." But it has not been without its ups and downs and controversy. And while there have been flamboyant quotes - remember the "grit-snow lasagne" - what has changed? Big ticket items Over the last eight years, even his most fierce critics would acknowledge there has been huge investment in transport. Crossrail is due to open, the Tube upgrades have continued and the … [Read more...] about The transport legacy of outgoing mayor Boris Johnson

‘Day I caught a couple of strangers getting frisky in my garden’, writes JENNI MURRAY
Right to Roamers are on the march again, with a group of more than 100 Morris dancers and ramblers dressed as sheep invading the Englefield estate in Berkshire last weekend. The protesters were calling for more of the countryside to be made open to the public and claim only eight per cent of land in England is accessible to all of us. It's true that half of England is owned by less than one per cent of its population — 30 per cent owned by the aristocracy, but around 70 per cent is land either owned or rented by farmers who are not necessarily wealthy or posh. They are people who view the countryside not as a leisure activity but as a working environment. Jenni Murray writes that she once found a couple canoodling in our garden as she discusses Right to Roam campaigners I have some experience of the battle between those who own their land and those who feel it's desperately unfair that they can't trudge all over it. On the one hand, I have great sympathy for those who … [Read more...] about ‘Day I caught a couple of strangers getting frisky in my garden’, writes JENNI MURRAY

Call for better support for vaccine patients infected with polio
Published 9 hours ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A man who was paralysed after a polio vaccination as a child said more support was needed for the rare few who suffered serious side effects. Hamish Thomas, from Exmoor, could not move and had to be carried on a pillow after his six-month immunisation. The specific live vaccine stopped being used in 2004 and carried a one in 500,000 risk of infecting people. The Department of Health and Social Care said all vaccines used in the UK had underwent "robust clinical trials". Mr Thomas, 24, said he was keen to stress the importance of vaccination but also hoped his story would inform doctors so that this rare group of patients were not overlooked in future. Now a permanent wheelchair user, he suffered the rare side effect when he was given three mild but altered live strains of the virus. "I was completely … [Read more...] about Call for better support for vaccine patients infected with polio
