Union vows to oppose using night flights to ease travel chaos
Plans to relax rules on night flights to help ease travel chaos over the summer holidays risk igniting a fresh row with unions, The Telegraph can reveal. Airlines are given quotas for the number of flights that can run between the hours of 11.30pm and 6am at major airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. These limits can lead to flights being cancelled if they are delayed. However, amid mounting concern over travel chaos in the summer, the Department for Transport said it will consider temporarily suspending rules on night flights to mitigate disruption at airports during the peak season. Holidaymakers have already suffered months of cancellations, delays and missing baggage. But last night, unions said they would "oppose any plans to force members to work anti social hours". A GMB union source accused aviation companies of having caused the problem by “imposing cuts on workers during the pandemic”. “It’s not fair to force our members to work nights to pick … [Read more...] about Union vows to oppose using night flights to ease travel chaos
Rolling Stones at BST Hyde Park review: After 60 years Mick still has moves like Jagger as band deliver satisfaction
A Rolling Stones appearance at BST Hyde Park was never going to be a lacklustre affair, but Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and co. delivered satisfaction – and then some. For more than two hours Sir Mick – who turns 80 this month, may I add – jumped and jived around the expansive stage, titillating tens of thousands of hit-thirsty punters through their updated setlist, changing his outfit several times and joking the event was a ‘covid super spreader’. ‘Welcome to the American Express British Summer Time Covid super spreader event,’ he shouted, in his telltale Sir Mick expression, to chuckles from the crowd, and with no mention of the fact the legend himself had Covid only last month . Having had the crowd warmed up by Courtney Barnett and Sam Fender, fresh from his Glastonbury appearance, the band’s second appearance on the Great Oak stage for British Summer Time started with a tear-jerking tribute to drummer Charlie Watts, who died last August, as an … [Read more...] about Rolling Stones at BST Hyde Park review: After 60 years Mick still has moves like Jagger as band deliver satisfaction

At least six dead in shooting amidst 4 July parade in Chicago suburb
At least six people are dead and 24 were taken to hospitals after a shooting at a July Fourth parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park, and officers are searching for a suspect, police said Monday. The authorities were treating the case as an active shooter situation, with the gunman considered to be "armed and dangerous". AO World shares dive on cash crunch fears
Online electricals retailer AO World has seen shares plunge amid worries over its financial strength after it emerged a credit insurer cut cover for the firm’s suppliers. The group saw shares fall by more than 18% at one stage in morning trading on Monday following a Sunday Times report revealing AO was hit by a cut in credit cover by Atradius. AO confirmed a credit insurer had slashed its cover in May, “reflecting post-Covid sales levels”, but insisted trading remained in line with its expectations and assured over its financial strength. It said the cover was reduced “from the heightened levels that had been in place and required through the period of the pandemic”. “To date this rebased cover has had no effect on AO’s liquidity position which remains in-line with the board’s expectations for full-year 2022-23,” it said.
