Boris Johnson has said Russia’s decision to abandon the prized strategic outpost of Snake Island demonstrates Ukraine ’s ability to fight back. The Prime Minister spoke to reporters from across the world today as he held a news conference at the close of Nato’s summit in Madrid. He said it is ‘only logical and right’ to intensify military support to help Kyiv defend against Vladimir Putin’s invasion. ‘I think the right thing for us is to keep going on the course that Nato set out, no matter how difficult it may be,’ said Johnson. He added: ‘It’s for Volodymyr Zelensky, his people, to decide what to do, whether they want to cut a deal with Russia … of course, that’s entirely a matter for them.’ He said it was the West’s job to simply ‘stand up for the principle of the right of the Ukrainians to protect themselves’. Johnson’s speech came hours after Russia announced its withdrawal from Snake Island , off Ukraine’s southern Black Sea coast. Boris Johnson compares Ukraine conflict to Falklands war in dig at Argentina
Boris Johnson compared the fight to liberate the Falkland Islands 40 years ago to the war in Ukraine in a 'frank' discussion with Argentina's president. The Prime Minister said yesterday he was 'disappointed' the issue had been raised as he met Alberto Fernandez on Monday at a G7 summit focused on how to respond to Russia 's invasion. Quizzed about the row as he flew to Madrid for a Nato summit yesterday, Mr Johnson said: 'I made the point that we were spending a lot of our time talking about Ukraine where the principle at stake was the right of sovereign independent people to determine their future.' 'I just said that it had been 40 years ago since the UK had, at a cost of the sacrifice of many lives, vindicated the principle that the Falkland Islanders should have the right to determine their future under basic democratic principles and had the right to be British,' Boris Johnson (right) told Argentinian president Alberto Fernandez (left) at the G7 summit in … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson compares Ukraine conflict to Falklands war in dig at Argentina
Vladimir Putin: Topless Boris Johnson and Justin Trudeau would be ‘disgusting sight’
Boris Johnson’s war of words with Vladimir Putin reached new heights as the Russian president said that he would be a “disgusting sight” with his top off. Putin hit back at a series of personal attacks by the Prime Minister and Ben Wallace, the Defence Secretary, during two diplomatic summits this week. The mocking began at a G7 meeting in Bavaria on Sunday, when Mr Johnson said that he would take off his jacket to show he was “tougher than Putin” – a reference to staged photographs of the Russian leader, topless and taking part in outdoor pursuits such as horse riding and river fishing. Justin Trudeau, the Canadian prime minister, said that the pair should go “bare-chested horseback riding”, while Mr Johnson said they should “show them our pecs”. Speaking at the Caspian Summit in Turkmenistan, Putin hit back at the two Western leaders. “I don’t know how they wanted to get undressed, above or below the waist,” he said. “But I think it would be a disgusting sight in any … [Read more...] about Vladimir Putin: Topless Boris Johnson and Justin Trudeau would be ‘disgusting sight’

Russian state TV claims ‘chubby Boris Johnson is jealous of Putin’s good shape’
Putin propagandists have rounded in on Boris Johnson after he mocked the Russian leader’s topless photos and ‘toxic masculinity’. In one particularly savage takedown, a Kremlin journalist branded the prime minister ‘chubby’, made a dig about partygate and claimed he was ‘jealous of Putin’s good shape’. The war of words kicked off earlier this week when the PM made a joke at his Russian counterpart’s expense , telling a G7 summit: ‘Shall we take our clothes off? We have to show we’re tougher than Putin.’ Canada’s Justin Trudeau then cited the dictator’s infamous photos of him riding a horse topless, saying, ‘We’re going to get the bare-chested horseback riding display’, before Mr Johnson quipped: ‘We’ve got to show them our pecs.’ The UK prime minister further angered Putin’s cheerleaders when he claimed the invasion of Ukraine would not have happened if the war criminal was a woman. Mr Johnson said: ‘If Putin was a woman, which he obviously isn’t, but if he were, I really … [Read more...] about Russian state TV claims ‘chubby Boris Johnson is jealous of Putin’s good shape’
Joe Biden to block Boris Johnson’s answer to global food crisis
Joe Biden will on Monday attempt to block Boris Johnson’s plan to move away from green fuels amid a transatlantic split over how to tackle the global cost of living crisis. Mr Johnson will address G7 leaders at a summit in Germany and ask them to repurpose land currently used for crop-based biofuels to grow more food. The Prime Minister believes using less green fuel would dampen soaring food prices and help avert famines in poorer countries that rely heavily on Ukrainian grain blockaded in ports by Russia. However, Mr Biden’s officials made it clear on Sunday that Washington will attempt to block the plans in a bid to protect US farmers and avoid jeopardising climate commitments. Downing Street sources admitted that Mr Johnson’s plan would fail without the support of all G7 nations. The Telegraph understands Germany is backing the plan, but it has been rebuffed by the US and Canada. “Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine are creating terrible aftershocks across the … [Read more...] about Joe Biden to block Boris Johnson’s answer to global food crisis
Boris Johnson faces Cabinet battle over defence spending
Boris Johnson is resisting public pressure from his own Defence Secretary and the head of the Army to increase military spending amid a Cabinet split over future funding. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister will say that the UK is spending 2.3 per cent of GDP on defence as he arrives at a Nato summit to agree an international push into eastern Europe to ward off the threat from Russia. At the gathering in Madrid, Mr Johnson will call on other member nations to “dig deep” and increase spending targets beyond the current level of two per cent of GDP. But his rallying call threatens to be undermined by the opposition of two senior Cabinet ministers over his refusal to increase Britain’s own budget, as well as concern that he is planning to breach a manifesto commitment to link military spending to inflation . The Telegraph can reveal that Downing Street intervened to water down calls for higher defence expenditure from Ben Wallace in a speech delivered on Tuesday. Mr Wallace, the … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson faces Cabinet battle over defence spending
Putin says he’d be ‘disgusted’ to see Boris Johnson naked after PM mocks his topless horse riding display
VLADIMIR Putin has said it would be "disgusting" to see Western leaders like Boris Johnson naked - after the PM mocked the Russian leader for his topless horse riding displays. The 69-year-old dictator hit back after Boris Johnson and Canada's Justin Trudeau poked fun at Mad Vlad as world leaders gathered in Germany for the G7. The Kremlin tyrant was the butt of jokes for his bizarre photo ops shooting bears and riding topless. At the start of talks between the leaders of the industrial powers, Mr Johnson declared “we have to show that we’re tougher than Putin" as he took off his jacket. And the Canadian PM quipped back suggesting they go for a “bare chested horseback ride", with Mr Johnson adding "show our pecs". But Putin lashed out at the swipe from the Western leaders, saying it would be a "disgusting sight" to see them without their clothes.
