Boris Johnson has boldly claimed he has an "obvious solution" to Brexit that is "perfectly realistic". The frontrunner for Prime Minister today insisted he will succeed in three months where Theresa May failed in years of negotiation with the EU. He said he would renegotiate the 585-page Brexit Withdrawal Agreement with the EU - to change arrangements for the Irish border. Despite the mammoth scale of the battle, and the EU refusing to reopen the WA, he claimed he would make Brexit happen on time. "We have to get out by October 31," deal or no deal, Mr Johnson declared. Yet he also raised doubts over whether he'll keep his word. Tellingly, he said it would be the wrong move "at this stage" to signal he will delay Brexit beyond October 31. And he refused to promise he'll resign if he does delay Brexit past Halloween . Mr Johnson made the comments in an interview with the BBC's The World at One - his first in the campaign. He said he would push to renegotiate the controversial … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson claims he has ‘obvious solution’ to Brexit that’s ‘perfectly realistic’

He faces fury for devoting barely any time to the mammoth Bill that will encode decades of EU law into UK law and give ministers sweeping powers over the future. Desperate Boris Johnson is scrabbling round for a plan after MPs pledged to resist his pleas for a general election . The Prime Minister begged Labour to table a vote of no confidence in his own Government and also asked smaller parties to help him out. Downing Street aides even suggested Tory MPs would be told to vote against their own leader to force an early ballot. In angry scenes in the Commons, the shameless PM batted away concerns from female MPs over his use of violent language. It came as Parliament returned 24 hours after the Supreme Court’s bombshell ruling that its suspension was unlawful. The PM faced calls to “resign” with MPs branding him a “liar” and shouting out “you should be in jail!” He goaded them to boot him from office and trigger an election, lashing out at everyone but himself over the historic court defeat. The shameless Tory showed no remorse, gave no apology and instead tried to blame the “paralysed … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson scrabbling round for plan as MPs pledge to resist general election

Boris Johnson today made a flurry of promises on the steps of 10 Downing Street in his first speech as the UK's Prime Minister. The Tory leader's breathless, breezy rattling-off of policies couldn't be more different to Theresa May's sombre speech on "burning injustices" three years later. He pledged to "unite our country" (despite threatening a No Deal Brexit ) and proclaimed: "The British people have had enough of waiting. "The time has come to act." Yet his announcements happened so quickly and with so little detail that you'd be forgiven for not knowing the facts behind him. So here's what Boris Johnson announced - and what the pledges actually mean. 1. Recruit 20,000 police 'forthwith' (but doesn't say when) WHAT HE SAID: "My job is to make your streets safer. I'm going to begin with another 20,000 police on the streets - and we start recruiting forthwith." THE FACTS: Boris Johnson made this pledge during the leadership campaign, claiming it would cost £1.1bn a year.
