Boris Johnson ‘thinks Tory enemies WON’T change party rules to oust him’
THE PM thinks his Tory enemies will chicken out of changing party rules to oust him, friends say. One key ally said any alteration would “hold a gun to the head” of every future Tory leader. The source added: “They would never be able to get on with anything, as they would be constantly beholden to the whims of MPs.” Boris Johnson survived a confidence vote in June and cannot be challenged again within a year. The 1922 committee , which sets the rules, will hold elections for its organisers this month. Some MPs want to dominate its executive to get the rules changed. Putin says he’d be ‘disgusted’ to see Boris Johnson naked after PM mocks his topless horse riding display
VLADIMIR Putin has said it would be "disgusting" to see Western leaders like Boris Johnson naked - after the PM mocked the Russian leader for his topless horse riding displays. The 69-year-old dictator hit back after Boris Johnson and Canada's Justin Trudeau poked fun at Mad Vlad as world leaders gathered in Germany for the G7. The Kremlin tyrant was the butt of jokes for his bizarre photo ops shooting bears and riding topless. At the start of talks between the leaders of the industrial powers, Mr Johnson declared “we have to show that we’re tougher than Putin" as he took off his jacket. And the Canadian PM quipped back suggesting they go for a “bare chested horseback ride", with Mr Johnson adding "show our pecs". But Putin lashed out at the swipe from the Western leaders, saying it would be a "disgusting sight" to see them without their clothes. Boris Johnson’s bromance with Emmanuel Macron is back on with back-slapping display at the G7 but PM swerves Brexit row
BORIS Johnson tonight declared ‘le bromance’ with France’s President Macron was back on - but swerved hammering him on small boats and Brexit. The Sun can reveal the pair have agreed to hold a landmark Anglo-French summit in the coming months after two years of dire diplomatic relations and snubs. After a bitter falling out over Covid vaccines and Brexit , BoJo’s allies say both sides agreed a reset was “overdue" at talks yesterday. A new security and defence alliance between the two nations could be forged at a London or Paris meeting in the next 12 months. But the PM risks accusations of surrendering to Paris on all contentious issues by steering clear of tricky subjects to avoid a row. The pair met for the first time since Mr Macron was mauled by French voters on the fringes of the G7 summit in Bavaria . Boris Johnson’s claim he is building ’40 new hospitals’ to be investigated
Boris Johnson’s dubious pledge that he is building 40 new hospitals by 2030 is set to be probed by the spending watchdog. The manifesto commitment was a key part of the prime minister’s election campaign in 2019 but has been dubbed misleading by the opposition. Ministers and the health department have been instructed to refer to refurbishments or the construction of new facilities at existing hospitals as ‘new hospitals’. Now the National Audit Office (NAO) is planning a ‘value for money review’ in the face of increasing costs caused by spiralling inflation. Under pressure from Labour, the body confirmed it would interrogate whether or not the schemes could be classed as ‘new hospitals’ at all as part of the process. The investigation gives Mr Johnson another political problem, potentially raising questions about both his truthfulness and ability to deliver election pledges. The probe emerged in a letter to shadow health secretary Wes Streeting from NAO … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson’s claim he is building ’40 new hospitals’ to be investigated
Letters: With or without Boris Johnson, it’s Conservative policies that attract votes
SIR – Has the leadership of the Tory party not noticed the unmistakable fact that, when they are conservative, the people vote for them, and when they are not, they don’t? Andy Tuke SIR – If Conservative Party rebels change the 1922 Committee rules to remove Boris Johnson, democracy is done for. They lost the Brexit vote in 2016 and lost the recent attempt to oust Mr Johnson by fair democratic ballots, and both should be respected. Gill Broadbent SIR – The Prime Minister may not want to “undergo some sort of psychological transformation”, but those who voted for a Conservative government already have. Philip Hall SIR – The remarks from Boris Johnson about serving for two or three terms as prime minister are reminiscent of James Callaghan stepping from his plane on his return from abroad in 1979 with a smile on his face, inviting the headline: “Crisis? What crisis?” Buffoonery and joking will impress no one, least of all Tory voters. Let us hope that the Tory … [Read more...] about Letters: With or without Boris Johnson, it’s Conservative policies that attract votes
