Boris Johnson moaned that Keir Starmer wouldn't stop asking questions about mass deaths and starving children in Yemen - and the UK's sales of billions in arms to Saudi Arabia to use in the conflict. As the government prepares to slash aid to help those devastated by the brutal civil war by 50%, the PM complained that the Labour leader didn't ask him questions about how well the Covid-19 roadmap was going. He said: "He can't even address a question on the issues of the hour. He could have asked anything about the Coronavirus Pandemic, instead he's concentrated his questions entirely to the interests of the people of Yemen." Starmer pressed Boris Johnson on whether arms sales to Yemen should be suspended. Opening PMQs , Sir Keir said: "Does the Prime Minister agree with President Biden that the sale of arms that could be used in the war in Yemen should be suspended?" The Prime Minister replied: "Ever since the tragic conflict in Yemen broke out this country has … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson moans over Keir Starmer asking questions about children starving in Yemen

Boris Johnson dons his woolly hat as he heads out for a run with dog Dilyn
PM Boris Johnson was snapped running with No10 dog Dilyn yesterday. The Prime Minister and his faithful hound were seen pounding the paths in a park yesterday ahead of today’s Budget . The Jack Russell cross bounded way ahead of the Prime Minster. Mr Johnson was left in tow wearing his trademark baggy woollen hat and holding the lead, as the pair exercised in London. The PM also wore Adidas shorts and a dark sweatshirt. In a move heartily backed by The Sun, Boris offered to host the Covid-hit Euros in the UK . Boris Johnson’s offer to host all of Euro 2020 welcomed by European football chiefs with 10 English stadiums on standby
BORIS JOHNSON'S offer to stage the whole of Euro 2020 has been welcomed by European football chiefs. Wembley is already due to stage SEVEN games at the tournament, including all three of England’s opening group matches, both semi-finals and the July 11 final. But the PM’s invitation, exclusively revealed by The Sun , has opened the way for the ultimate summer of football across the country. One source told The Sun: “It is great for us that England is so keen to play its part this summer.” European football’s governing body Uefa plans to confirm the schedule for this summer’s delayed tournament by April 7. That is the date Euro bosses have ordered the current 12 planned host cities to confirm their willingness to host games. But Uefa is demanding that ALL hosts commit to staging games with fans inside grounds. The Government announced last week that all Covid restrictions will be ended from June 21, opening the way for Wembley to allow a 90,000 full house … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson’s offer to host all of Euro 2020 welcomed by European football chiefs with 10 English stadiums on standby
British & Irish Lions move step closer to ‘home’ tour against South Africa
The British and Irish Lions moved a step closer to a ‘home’ tour after Boris Johnson announced plans for sporting crowds to return by the summer. Switching matches away from South Africa, where eight fixtures are scheduled for July and August, would be unprecedented in the history of rugby's greatest touring team. But it has emerged as the most attractive option following the unveiling of the Government’s "roadmap" for easing Covid restrictions in England. The Prime Minister said crowds of 10,000 could be permitted in 40,000-plus capacity venues after May 17, with a view to all restrictions being lifted on June 21. That would pave the way for normal service to resume at Wimbledon, The Open golf at Sandwich, the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and England’s cricket series with Pakistan (ODI) and India. The Lions won’t make a decision before next month and insist every option remains on the table, not least as it is unclear whether the English roadmap will be followed by … [Read more...] about British & Irish Lions move step closer to ‘home’ tour against South Africa
Rishi Sunak hands 90% of £1bn new Towns Fund cash in Budget to Tory seats
Rishi Sunak has been forced to deny handing Budget bonuses to Tory MPs, after it emerged almost 90% of a newly announced towns fund will go to Conservative constituencies. Of the 45 towns benefiting from the £1bn fund, unveiled by the Chancellor today, 40 have at least one Tory MP. And around half of the towns are in so-called “red wall” northern seats taken from Labour in the 2019 election - and which Boris Johnson is desperate to keep hold of. Of the £1bn in newly announced funding, some £886 million will go to towns with Tory seats - 88.6% of the total fund. But Rishi Sunak denied the fund was ’naked pork barrel politics’. At a Downing Street press conference, the Financial Times’ George Parker also noted that Mr Sunak’s constituency is in the “Priority One” list for the new Levelling Up Fund, also announced by the Chancellor today. The Chancellor denied targeting Tory seats. He said: “The formula for the grant payments for the new fund, to give them some … [Read more...] about Rishi Sunak hands 90% of £1bn new Towns Fund cash in Budget to Tory seats
