Theresa May has today announced her resignation from leader of the Conservative Party where she will officially stand down on Friday June 7. Around 15 Conservative MPs are expected to run over the summer to replace May and become Britain's next Prime Minister and leader of the Tories. However, we could expect to see more MPs coming forward in the next few days. It really is anyone's game. According to the bookmakers, former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is the person most likely to replace Theresa May. And in second place is former Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab. It means the favourites to win the contest are both Brexiteers. Bookies Betway have Michael Gove, the Environment Secretary, in third place at 11/1. He also backed Brexit in the 2016 referendum - but unlike Mr Johnson and Mr Raab, he’s consistently supported Theresa May as she tried to get her Brexit deal through Parliament. Some people might ask why Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn isn’t in the running. Following Theresa May's resignation announcement today, thoughts are quickly turning to who will take over her job. A race will be launched to find the next Conservative Party leader, who will also automatically take on the role of Prime Minister of the UK - at least until we have another general election.
