Boohoo is to pay £25m for Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton in a deal set to catapult the fashion brands to an online-only future at the expense of thousands of high street jobs.The online fashion specialist, which has already snapped up the Debenhams name amid the COVID-19 bloodbath for physical retailers, said it was to buy all the e-commerce and digital assets of the three brands, as well as their stock.It confirmed the deal with administrators did not include the brands' retail stores, concessions or franchises.The collapse of Sir Philip Green's Arcadia empire in December placed 13,000 jobs at risk and only a fraction were saved when Boohoo rival ASOS landed the top names, including TopShop, a week ago. DOROTHY Perkins, Wallis and Burton are running up to 80% off sales on their websites ahead of Boohoo taking over each brand. Boohoo has snapped up all three retailers from Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia Group in a deal worth £25.2million. The takeover spells the end of Sir Philip's retail empire after Arcadia Group collapsed into administration in November following "severely impacted" sales. But the Boohoo deal doesn’t include shops, meaning 214 stores are set to close forever, with 2,450 retail jobs at risk of redundancy. Only 260 employees from Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton will move over to Boohoo, including buyers and designers. Around 5,000 shop workers at Sir Philip Green’s failed high street empire will lose their jobs - with thousands more set to follow. Another 2,450 staff were told yesterday on Monday they were being axed after online fashion giant Boohoo bought bits of Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton. The £25million deal includes the website and stock, but none of the three chain’s 214 stores. It comes a week after rival internet fashion firm ASOS snapped-up the Topshop, Topman and Miss Selfridge brands, but not its shops, triggering around 2,500 job losses. Green’s Arcadia group employed 13,000 people when it collapsed in December. Around 2,000 staff have already been made redundant. With fewer than 600 jobs saved by ASOS and Boohoo, Arcadia’s remaining workforce faces a grim future.
