Doctor shares gross dust mites warning if you’re still using old pillows

· March 1, 2021 ·

Bedroom pillows are something we use every single night and come to rely on to give us a good night's sleep. But our pillows and duvets are often forgotten about, sometimes being left for months or even years without being washed, let alone replaced. If you're one of those people, a doctor has now released a video explaining why you should be buying new pillows every two years - and it might be enough to change your mind. Dr Karan Raj has racked up millions of views on TikTok sharing everything from medical advice and facts, to sleep methods, to behind-the-scenes looks as life as a doctor. In a video captioned: 'You need to change your pillows at least every two years', he explains: "The average person sheds about 4kg of skin every year. Most of that ends up on your bed or pillow - a feast for microscopic dust mites. "A single dust mite has about 20 droppings each day, multiple that by the hundreds of mites living on your pillow. "A build up of dust mite faeces can … [Read more...] about Doctor shares gross dust mites warning if you’re still using old pillows

‘I tried to take my life after Dunblane horror – but now I have my happy family’

· March 7, 2021 ·

It was an ordinary Wednesday morning when I woke up on 13 March, 1996. It was snowing and I shivered as I pulled on my red school uniform sweater. We’d moved to Scotland three years earlier – my mum, my stepdad and my 11-year-old brother Joe. I loved my school. I was a happy-go-lucky kid and very settled. Dunblane was a safe, close-knit community. Neighbours were friendly and Joe and I had the freedom to play in the park and walk to school by ourselves. After we’d waved Mum goodbye at home, we walked the short distance to school and Joe went off to his class, which was in a prefab structure on the site, and I went to mine, Primary Four, which was a classroom in the main building. The school had a large gym in the middle and a big field at the back. It was coming up to 9.30am and our class was walking through a corridor to the music room, called the “GP room”, to practise singing for a big assembly later that week. But something wasn’t right. I was standing next to my … [Read more...] about ‘I tried to take my life after Dunblane horror – but now I have my happy family’

Coronavirus news UK – Over-56s invited for vaccine and ministers ‘looking at’ longer school day & shorter holidays

· March 7, 2021 ·

BRITS aged between 56 and 59 have been invited to receive their coronavirus vaccine as the rollout goes from strength to strength. It comes as Gavin Williamson admitted this morning that ministers are "looking at" a longer school day and shorter holidays to make up for lost education due to the pandemic . Hundreds of thousands of letters for the over 56 age group began landing on doorsteps today, Public Health England have said. Meanwhile, Professor Sharon Peacock, head of the Covid-19 Genomics UK scientific body, told The Times she was "very optimistic" that the immunisation programme would continue to be effective. It comes as a minister predicted that all adults could receive the jab by June should the vaccine rollout continue at its current pace. Kwasi Kwarteng, the business secretary, told The Times it was “possible” that all adults could be offered vaccines by June. Boris Johnson opens door to NHS pay rise U-turn – as even Tory voters demand it

· March 7, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson has left the door open to U-turning over the paltry 1% pay rise for NHS staff after fury from thousands of nurses. The Prime Minister stressed the process was still ongoing as he was grilled on a visit to an NHS vaccine centre in north London. It now means Mr Johnson and Gavin Williamson have both failed to rule out U-turning - and implementing a higher pay rise - after an independent review body reports back later this year. Asked if he could look nurses in the eye over the paltry sum, or whether a U-turn was possible, Mr Johnson told reporters: "I’m massively grateful to all NHS staff and indeed social care workers who’ve been heroic throughout the pandemic. “What we’ve done is tried to give them as much as we can at the present time. The independent pay review body will obviously look at what we’ve proposed and come back.” Nursing unions have set up a fighting fund for possible strike action after the below-inflation rise emerged in government documents on … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson opens door to NHS pay rise U-turn – as even Tory voters demand it
