Outrage after hotel manager ‘blacks up’ for Indian-themed party at Yorkshire venue where rooms go for upwards of £600
A JUNIOR manager at a hotel has been slammed online after he wore blackface for a staff party. The 20-year-old man was seen at the Rudding Park Hotel in North Yorkshire having "blacked up" for an Indian-themed party. He was also wearing a white Indian robe while posing next to a woman in an evening gown. The picture quickly went viral with social media users slamming his actions. One woman tweeted: "If racism this overt can exist in a place like Rudding Park Hotel, I fear how much covert discrimination both customers and staff of colour experience." Another user said the man should have been held "more accountable" for his actions. The hotel issued an official statement on their website apologising for the incident: "We recognise what happened is not acceptable behaviour and the junior member of staff concerned was immediately asked to remove the make-up by a senior member of staff on the night of the event.
