The sister of fashion designer Kate Spade says a long struggle with bipolar disorder may have led to her taking her own life. Spade was found dead by her housekeeper in her New York apartment on Tuesday. Police said she appeared to have hanged herself. In an email to "CBS This Morning," Spade's sister, Reta Saffo, said she believed Spade suffered from bipolar disorder. "It finally took its toll on her. A very tragic and sad ending to the life of a very colorful and delightful being," Saffo wrote. Pop superstar Mariah Carey has revealed that she suffers from bipolar disorder and has entered treatment. The singer, whose sweeping five-octave vocal range helped make her one of the most successful artists of the 1990s, said she decided to go public to help remove stigma over the mental illness. "Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me," she told People in the celebrity magazine's latest cover story. Carey, who is in her late 40s, said she long presumed that she had a sleeping problem but that her insomnia and irritability turned out to be the lows of bipolar disorder, commonly known as manic depression. Mariah Carey has revealed she is bipolar in a brand new interview. The singer - one of the world's most successful - was first diagnosed with the II disorder in 2001 following which she sought treatment after what she describes as “the hardest couple of years [she's] been through.“ She told PEOPLE: “Until recently I lived in denial and isolation and in constant fear someone would expose me.
