EASTENDERS fans have been left fuming over tonight's "unrealistic" episode - which saw evil Ray Kelly overpower two police officers after he was arrested for bigamy at his and Mel Owen's wedding. Viewers pointed out major plot holes as Ray locked the two officers into the back of their car before returning to Walford and kidnapping Mel's son, Hunter. Ray hoodwinked the two officers as he faked a heart attack in the back of the car - making them pull over. However, critics have slammed the scene that showed an officer releasing Ray from his handcuffs, with Ray then using the PC's pepper spray on him. The other officer was on the phone for an ambulance at the time, but she doesn't make an attempt to stop Ray with her own spray or baton when he threatens her with the one that he is holding. In the next scene, both officers are handcuffed in the back of the car - despite Ray having nothing more than pepper spray to overpower them. The storyline appeared to get even more unbelievable as Ray … [Read more...] about EastEnders fans point out major plot hole as Ray Kelly escapes TWO police officers before kidnapping Mel Owen’s son

LISA Armstrong has offered her support to Great British Bake Off champ Candice Brown after she was targeted by nasty trolls following her appearance on the show's New Year's Day special. The baking star, 34, had appeared on The Great Festive Bake Off alongside 2017 finalist Steven Carter-Bailey, 2015's runner-up Tamal Ray, 32, and 2014 contestant Kate Henry, 41. Following the show, she found herself subjected to a slew of criticism, including threats of violence, on Twitter after her lipstick cake failed to wow the judges. Megan Diskin Ventura County Star Published 9:43 PM EST Nov 15, 2018 WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – It was standing room only as Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus was remembered for his love of faith, family and service at a memorial Thursday at Calvary Community Church. Helus, 54, knew the value of building people and supporting them, said Lauren Smith, Helus’ niece and goddaughter, noting that Helus was always the first to take care of others. Now, she prays, God will look after him. “My family’s world has been shaken by the loss of a husband, a father, an uncle, a brother, a nephew, a son and a dear friend,” Smith said. “We mourn with all the others who lost their loved ones.” A 29-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Helus was killed while responding to the Nov. 7 mass shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill in nearby Thousand Oaks. It used to be called the managerial merry-go-round but Billy Brown reckons life in the dugout is more like the ghost train these days with a quarter of gaffers in Scotland out of a gig before Halloween. Dumbarton dumped Stevie Aitken on Monday night at the same time Airdrie were handing Stephen Findlay his jotters – meaning 12 of the 42 SPFL clubs are not longer with the same mangers who started the season and half a dozen of them currently managerless. Those two plus Livingston, St Mirren, Dundee United, Partick Thistle, Falkirk, Morton, Raith Rovers, Stirling Albion, Berwick Rangers and Queen’s Park have all either punted their managers or watched them quit in an early campaign bosses bloodbath. Managers and Coaches Association chairman Brown has been watching in dismay and reckons it’s trigger happy directors who should be copping the flak rather than the poor fall guys on the touchlines. The former Hearts, Hibs, and Killie No.2 admitted alarm bells are ringing … [Read more...] about Billy Brown insists clubs need to give managers more time

PHOTO: Archant ARCHANT EASTERN DAILY PRESS (01603) 772434 One reader can’t make sense of what passes for fashion these days. What do you think? As an old Norwich boy (born a generation earlier than Steven Downes) I identify perfectly with his sentiments in ‘why we should be celebrating the news that our fine city isn’t on trend’. Even before I read the phrase “dedicated followers” toward the end of his piece, I heard that Kinks song of 50-odd years ago Dedicated Follower of Fashion wafting into my consciousness. Ray Davies and his group were pouring scorn on the idea that a man could be so obsessed with his appearance that “he thinks that he is a flower” in his polka dots and stripes. But remembering those days as I do, I still feel that things are worse nowadays. Steven speaks of trousers too short and ankles too bare and such things mark a … [Read more...] about Reader opinion: Norwich is unfashionable? Good!
