By Karen Hoggan Published 22 minutes ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Energy bills for a typical household could hit £4,266 next year, consultancy Cornwall Insight has warned. The higher estimate means the average household would be paying £355 a month, instead of £164 a month currently. Cornwall cited regulator Ofgem's decision to change the price cap every three months instead of six and higher wholesale prices for its high forecast. But Ofgem said no forecast for next year could be "robust" at this stage and had "limited value". The latest price cap - the maximum amount suppliers can charge customers for average energy usage in England, Scotland and Wales for October - is due to be announced at the end of this month. Cornwall expects this to rise to £3,582 a year, compared to the regulator's prediction of £2,800 a year . Dr Craig Lowrey, … [Read more...] about Energy bills forecast to hit over £4,200 a year

Everything you can do NOW to prepare for ‘devastating’ winter bill shock
Families across the UK are facing a “devastating” winter of bill hikes - with energy bills set to skyrocket again, interest rates and inflation continuing to rise and warnings of a recession . Leading energy analysts are predicting the Ofgem price cap could hit a massive £3,359 in October - up £1,388 from the April price cap level of £1,971. The price cap is then expected to rise further still in January, with Cornwall Analysts suggesting it could reach £3,616. On top of this, the Bank of England has just raised interest rates from 1.25% to 1.75% - adding hundreds of pounds to homeowners with a variable rate or tracker mortgage, and pushing up the cost of borrowing. It comes as inflation continues to spiral out of control. Inflation is currently at a 40-year high of 9.4% and is expected to keep rising. Are you worried about rising bills this winter? Liz Truss’s tax cuts could trigger a wave of investment into the UK, says L&G chief
Liz Truss’s plans to slash taxes could trigger a wave of investment into the UK, the boss of Legal & General has said. Nigel Wilson, the influential City grandee and chief executive of the UK’s biggest pensions manager, said that cutting taxes on businesses could boost the attractiveness of Britain as a destination for international investors. Attracting overseas money could soften the blow as the economy heads into a recession, Mr Wilson said. "Reducing the tax burden will be seen by international investors [as a sign] that the country is open for business,” he said. It comes as Ms Truss and former chancellor Rishi Sunak, the two candidates vying to replace Boris Johnson as prime minister, continue to trade blows about whether immediate tax cuts would boost economic growth or stoke inflation. Ms Truss is in favour of rapidly cutting taxes in the hope it will stimulate economic activity, while Mr Sunak argues that slashing taxes now will only serve to prolong the … [Read more...] about Liz Truss’s tax cuts could trigger a wave of investment into the UK, says L&G chief
I’m 21 and already having to think about having kids because of my endometriosis
Just like clockwork, I’m back in the hospital waiting room. My leg bounces as I wait for my name to be called, hoping that this month’s consultation will have better news than the last. But it never does. ‘Maybe next month!’ my nurse will tell me – knowing there’s nothing she can say that will actually ease my frustration at an ever-growing waiting list for surgery. I lift up my sleeve, ready for my monthly dose of Prostap – a drug that keeps my body in a menopausal state. I clench my fist in preparation for the pain, but the injection will never hurt as much as the sound of newborns crying from down the hall. The thing is, I have chronic pain, bladder issues, and as a result of my endometriosis, I’m in a chemical menopause. After being diagnosed with endometriosis in 2019, at 19, almost seven years after my nauseating pain, heavy periods and painful sex began, I initially felt hopeful. I knew why I was in so much pain, and was optimistic that my condition would … [Read more...] about I’m 21 and already having to think about having kids because of my endometriosis
