The young adults, aged 12 to 17, enjoyed four days of fun during the Firestarter Festival which celebrated its 21st ’birthday’ this year.As part of the festival, the teenagers camped out at the Ardwhallan Outdoor Education Centre in West Baldwin, which hosted a range of outdoor activities such as canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding.A group of volunteers kept the teenagers entertained by providing inclusive games such as ’human battleships’, a forest capture the flag and touch rugby.Evening entertainment consisted of a Firestarter talent show with revellers and crew members taking to the stage to showcase their skills in singing, magic and dancing. Budding footballers put through their paces at summer camp
Over 70 budding footballers were put through the paces at West Lothian Youth Foundation’s summer camp. Held at Livingston FC, this week’s camp for children aged 3-15 was their largest ever during the summer holidays. The kids took part in fun drills as well as putting their teamwork skills to the test in a series of games. Andrew Cowan of WLYF hailed the camp as a huge success, saying: “We had over 70 youngsters signed up for this week, which is the best we’ve ever had for a summer camp. “It’s fantastic to see and there’s plenty of new faces for this week, as well as lots that have been part of our camps before. The dance group has staged another impressive summer camp and showed off their fabulous new skills to parents and friends this week. The four-day camp saw more than 20 five to 14-year-olds working on new dance skills and choreography. They even took part in their very own dance battles in teams. Kayleigh Wilson, dance officer at Showcase The Street, said: “The week was filled with learning new dance routines, choreography skills, fun games and making new friends. “The kids had lots of fun and worked really hard during the time they were there. Parents say ASN children are being excluded from summer camp fun
Disabled children are being left behind due to a lack of summer clubs, parents warn. Mum Fiona Miller, 37, insists youngsters are missing out because they only have five dedicated activity days across the whole holiday. A lack of qualified staff means they cannot take part in council-run fun camps. Parents have fought a year-long campaign to improve services – but have been told to wait at least six more months.
