Google to STOP selling ads based on tracking your online movements

· March 3, 2021 ·

GOOGLE has vowed to stop selling ads based on your browsing history across multiple websites. The shock change to Google ads will start next year – and is a major boost for user privacy. Right now, Google can track you across the internet in the Chrome browser. When you browse various websites, digital cookies can log your movements. This data is then scooped up and used to sell you personalised ads. For a long time, Google and other advertisers have argued that seeing more relevant ads is better for users. But privacy campaigners have insisted that the level of tracking is now too pervasive – following your every move across the web. "As our industry has strived to deliver relevant ads to consumers across the web, it has created a proliferation of individual user data across thousands of companies, typically gathered through third-party cookies," said Google's David Temkin. "This has led to an erosion of trust." Apple made an early stand, regularly updating … [Read more...] about Google to STOP selling ads based on tracking your online movements

Drug dealer killed ‘much loved’ grandmother after losing control of car in chase

· March 5, 2021 ·

A "callous" drug dealer mowed down and killed a much loved grandmother after losing control of his car and veering on to the wrong side of a road. Mohammed Ishfaq, who was being pursued by two other cars at the time, drove off from the scene and then got another drug dealer to burn the car and try and take the blame for what he had done. Ishfaq, 34, of Lozells, Birmingham, who admitted causing the death of Krishna Droch by dangerous driving, was jailed for six years and three months. He was also banned from the roads for 10 years, Birmingham Mail reports . Ishfaq had been living with Darren Holness who were both "users and dealers of drugs" and he had bought a Vauxhall Zafira about a week before the incident. Mark Heywood, prosecuting at Birmingham Crown Court, said: "On the morning of November 9 2017 the two men began their preparations to go out and deal from that car. "Both had taken the same sort of drugs, a mixture of heroin, crack and mamba." He said their … [Read more...] about Drug dealer killed ‘much loved’ grandmother after losing control of car in chase

Why ‘The Little Prince’ is still one of the world’s favorite books

· January 6, 2018 ·

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's "The Little Prince" was first released in New York on April 6, 1943. The fairy tale about the likable little blond boy from the asteroid B 612 was instantly praised by critics—and has since gained a cult following. Joseph Hanimann, Swiss writer and author of Saint-Exupéry's biography told DW there is something mysterious about the little prince who looks at the world through the eyes of a child but articulates his observations like a wise man. Chapter by chapter, the prince touches on friendship, love, technological progress, consumption and the decay of modern society. These elements, according to Hanimann, make the book more relevant today than ever. DW: Can you still remember what it was like when you first read "The Little Prince?" Joseph Hanimann: I was a child back then, and I admit that I did not understand the book. It was quite puzzling to me. However, there is something enigmatic about "The Little Prince," even when I read it today, which, … [Read more...] about Why ‘The Little Prince’ is still one of the world’s favorite books

'I have actually been 'cancelled',' he says. 'I had a letter published in the Times about how the rest of the UK ought to have a say in whether we wanted independence from the Scots.
