Martin Compston has shown that he is not someone to be messed with in real life, as well as on screen in Line Of Duty. The 36-year-old actor, whose birthday is at the weekend, had an epic clap back to a troll who questioned his Scottish citizenship. Martin, who is best know for playing Anti-Corruption Unit Detective Inspector Steve Arnott in the acclaimed BBC police drama, had been encouraging Scottish voters to go to the polls, adding that the future of Scotland is in their hands. The actor had a number of responses to his appeal on Twitter , including one which wanted to know how he could be claiming to be living in the country. A troll responded with: "Hi mate, what part of Scotland do you stay now? @martin_compston." The tweet seemed to be a dig about Martin's home address after he spent lockdown with his wife in Las Vegas, where they have a home. Martin had an epic response to put the troll in their place, writing: "Currently staying in Edinburgh where I’m … [Read more...] about Line Of Duty’s Martin Compston hits back at troll who questioned Scottish citizenship

FRANCE is under mounting pressure from other European states who want to let Michel Barnier drop the EU's hardline fishing demands. Paris has infuriated fellow capitals by standing firm on its insistence the bloc must secure status quo terms. The row erupted after a meeting of EU envoys this week, with representatives from non-coastal states warning Brussels is being "too strict". They're ready to accept we'll take back control of our waters , and want to use a £4.6bn emergency fund to compensate European fishermen . One EU diplomat said: "We know our position is totally unrealistic, but so is the British one. "We need to get to the point where there’s a more mature dialogue. It’s not that complicated." Another added: "The EU will have to soften its position. We should not just limit ourselves to the interests of a few states." A British official said: “We've been clear we won’t accept any proposals which compromise UK sovereignty over our fishing waters. … [Read more...] about EU states urge France to drop hardline Brexit fishing demands

"My child is not a lab rat." The words are from a 25-year-old woman, Susan, and they're in reference to her three-year-old twin girls. While she speaks to DW, her eyes flicker between them as they begin to meander away — first together, then in different directions — in a large, open park in Bonn, Germany. "It just hasn't been tested enough," Susan insists. "A few months [of testing]? That isn't safe." So no, she says. Her kids are not getting vaccinated against COVID-19. And she isn't, either. Her husband had to, and she didn't like that. At a nearby playground, another mother, who does not want to share her name, feels very differently. "I'd vaccinate them. If it were allowed, or doable, then definitely." Her 12-year-old daughter, she says, has had two different kids in her classroom get COVID-19. That led to a two-week quarantine — each time. "That's where you realize it affects them too." At some point in the coming weeks, the European Medicines Agency is expected to … [Read more...] about COVID: How many parents will actually vaccinate their kids?
AS a lifelong fan of the Mr Men, Matt Lucas thought he knew all there was to know about the celebrated children’s books. But while making a documentary for Channel 4, marking the 50th anniversary of their creation, he got a bit of a shock. It turned out the wholesome characters came close to being used for a rather racy purpose. Matt says: “I asked them whether they’d had to say no to any ideas for merchandise, and they told me somebody wanted to make Mr Men CONDOMS. “They felt that even though condoms were a socially responsible thing, they didn’t feel it was an approp-riate match. Yeah, I think they made the right call on that one. “But the merchandising is still something that is very big for these characters, they’ve had their own Happy Meals.” The Mr Men and Little Miss books are not just a cultural phenomenon, they are a major money-spinner, as the Little Britain and Great British Bake Off star discovered. They are a hit formula first dreamt up when … [Read more...] about Matt Lucas shocked after finding out Mr Men characters came close to be used on condoms
